Heartworm disease affects cats differently than dogs. Cats are atypical hosts for heartworms, and most worms don't survive to adulthood. Cats with adult heartworms usually have only one to three worms, and many cats don't have any adult worms.
Heartworm disease can cause lasting damage:

In dogs, heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs, and arteries. Treatment can be expensive, difficult, and often comes too late to fully cure the animal.
Signs of heartworm disease in dogs:

Early signs of heartworm disease in dogs include:
Coughing
Shortness of breath
Tiredness after moderate activity
Weight loss
Decreased appetite
Fainting or collapsing
Swollen abdomen

No dog or cat is safe. Even the babies that don't go outside are at risk. The truth is we open windows and doors, mosquitos can come in. It only takes 1 infected mosquito to cause harm to our beloved babies!

So let's do our part. Have you babies tested yearly and make sure they are on heartworm prevention every month for the rest of their lives.

Venture is ready for adoption! This sweet, smart, and easily trainable pup is ready to find her forever home! 🐾 Videos in comments!!

Don’t be fooled by her initially shy demeanor and those sad eyes—this girl is happy, healthy, and full of love! She adores being petted, enjoys treats (she’s very food-driven!), and is puppy pad trained. We’re also working on pottying outside and leash training. Venture is crate trained, and while she loves her toys, she’s even happier with a playmate who shares her laid-back energy.

Just a heads up: she’s got a bit of a mischievous side—if you’re not looking, she might just nibble on your shoes or furniture! But with her sweet nature and love of learning, Venture is sure to fill your life with joy. She’s ready to find a family who will cherish her as much as she’ll cherish them. ❤️🐶

Dr. Morton does not think her leg needs to be amputated (yay!), but as she ages she may develop arthritis due to the old fracture. Her ideal family is one who understands that she’s a special adoption with unique needs. 🐾 While her leg/hip may require some long-term care, she’s a happy, active pup who gets around just fine without any pain. Her leg doesn’t hold her back from anything!

Regular exercise, especially swimming, will be key to helping her build muscle and maintain her mobility. She’s ready to live her best life with a family who will support her and love her unconditionally. If you’re someone who can offer Venture the care she needs, she’ll reward you with endless love and companionship. ❤️🐶
