I love my child more than anything in this world.

It would be absolutely horrifying if anything ever harmed him.

Does that mean I can lock him up, jeep him isolated and dress him in security clothing all of his life?

Actually sometimes, secretly I wish I could, but I have to teach him HOW HE CAN SUPPORT HIMSELF in this world.

I have to create the best possible circumstances for him to learn and thrive and then let go and hope for the best…

What are your thoughts on this?

What makes a happy horse?

I could name many things, surely food - freedom - friends.

But this guy showed me like no other about choosing each other over and over again, the importance of sharing daily cores and time and two way communication 🫶

We did not go through!

He is so brave & happy in any water I‘m asking him to cross, I don’t want to take advantage of his trust.

Also, he was telling me very clearly that this was too deep and scary. So we changed the route and did another adventure…

What is important in being with horses?

That we both feel good!
Every now and then people ask me if I talk to my horse.
The question surprises me every time. OF COURSE I speak to my horse! It doesn’t matter if it’s in my mind, through my body or with words; we are in a continuous conversation!

The thing is: I don’t make a difference between human & animals.

And I think they should be protected by the same laws.

Unforgettable course at

Last weekend I did another workshop with help of my dear friends Tella, Lillith, Lady and Saratan.
It was surprising, creative, fun and we laughed!
Time flew while we experienced what BALNCE in mind, communication and horse training means.

Trust & communication above all!

He tells me when to get off his back, when he is insecure and when he doesn’t agree. I communicate back.

We are in a constant conversation and it’s the best I ever had. It challenges me, makes me creative bit also makes me laugh.
And so we ended up running through the waves together 🫶

Próximamente celebraremos una nueva edición de mi curso “EquiLibre”
En el enseño nuevas técnicas para incrementar las interacciones positivas con nuestros caballos, con el objetivo de reforzar nuestros lazos y relaciones con ellos y dar un suporte para que el caballo se entrena ‘solo’. El caballo como dueño del movimiento.

Working on connection & balance

I find it hard to find the „right“ way of telling the horse to move without actually scaring him into action. I want to encourage movement, but with him as owner of movement.

How did you learn to ride?

In many ways I was really lucky, even if I didn’t feel that way. I learned from family and friends on healthy, loving horses.

But nobody would have ever given them autonomy. Why would you? You wanted them to do what you ask.

It took a long time to get me to this kind of communication…

Natural communication 😔

All those who have (had) a partner, friend, child, pet know:

Communication is happening all the time, but most messages get lost in translation.
I say red, you see through your blue glasses and think purple. Nobody is wrong but still we miss each other.

Same with horses. Obviously.
But! In my courses I tell people that if the horse doesn’t do what they want: it is always the HUMANS fault.

WE want to be with the horse! The horse wants to be on a huge land with friends and forage and freedom.

So if we NEED TO BE WITH THEM, we are responsible for a CLEAR, LOVING communication.

In the best case TWO WAYS: talk & listen!

Traditional versus autonomous horse training
Will I be able to connect to this horse?

Every time I start working with a new horse, I wonder.
Will it open up to me? Will I be able to read it? Will I have the right ideas for it’s specific body?

But above all: Will I have the patience to figure all this out WITHOUT FALLING BACK ONTO THE TRADITIONAL TRAINING METHODS I LEARNED?

And I struggle. (Almost) loose patience. Get frustrated. Am bored.

And then I get SURPRISED! AMAZED! By the quick, easy, tender, open responses I get!

Every time!

And I’m happy myself when a third party watches over my shoulder to tell me when my timing was bad 🫣

Nature! How natural are your walks?

And I don’t mean so much you surroundings but rather how natural does it come to you? Is there an underground between you and your horse? Can you enjoy each other’s company?

Testing autonomy!
I have noticed that when I start working with horses, many (most) are super engaged at the beginning!

They wait at the gait, call, don’t leave my side, don’t want to stop.

Until… they don’t. With many horses there comes a moment when all of a sudden they want nothing to do with me. They keep grazing or return to their friends quickly, engage only shortly or even get a little grumpy or ignore the click & treat.

I have found that best

- but sooo difficult for a enthusiastic person with no patience and lots of ideas and plans -

way is to leave them be. Spent undemanding time with each other, groom them or just sit and watch.

THE HORSE WILL THANK YOU BY RETURNING MORE ENGAGED!

Mirroring

How do foals learn? They copy what others do.
Why do grown up horses don’t copy us (usually)? Because we move unconsciously and a lot and we don’t notice them.

But they happily start again once they can and are heard.

Now why would you teach a horse to get up on a tree trunk? That’s a question for another day.

⚖️ Why does “nobody” want to work with positive reinforcement?

Because you have to WAIT FOR THE OTHER! It’s so much easier to push, kick, whip your suppressed emotions onto someone else. So much easier than to ask - wait - rethink the question - change the exercise - ask differently and wait until the other has understood it.

BUT: once he understood it, you helped him to become OWNER OF MOVEMENT ⚖️

What do I do?

I train with mainly positive reinforcement and NATURAL OBSTACLES preferably in liberty!

I want my horse to find and re-find his balance! On the leadrope, with a rider, on the ground, at liberty, I try to challenge them to challenge themselves!

They love it!
(Here I wanted to show Tango that we can also play with a bit and a bridle. There was no contact to the bridle, it was just there)

Get to know their basic needs, their preferences, spend undemanding time with them?

On June 17 from 10.00 to 17.00 h I organize a "Clicker" clinic for horses.

I'm a certified as "Life Coach and horse riding instructor" and have several years of experience in 4 countries and in 4 languages (Dutch, English, German, Spanish).

The course that we I'm offering you, will allow you to learn new techniques for diverse & natural horse training. Intuitive techniques and creativity and positive interactions with horses, are my key specialties.

TO KEEP IN MIND:

🐴 The course will be taught mainly in SPANISH (I speak it perfectly, and can also translate to German, English and Dutch).

On May 30 from 9.00 to 13.00 h and 18 - 20h we do a "mindeset, communication & positivie reinforcement" clinic for horses.

This activity is given by .equilibre certified in "Life Coach and horse riding instructor" and with several years of coaching & teaching experience in 4 countries and in 4 languages (Dutch, English, German, Spanish)".

The course that we offer you, will allow you to learn new techniques that increase the diversity of positive interactions with horses towards holistic training, which will also help you to enjoy them much more.

When suddenly given a choice, many traditionally trained horses use their veto!

People get really frustrated when their plans don’t work: they usually come with an idea what to do. When the horse says ‘no’, that plan has to change.

Are you willing to do that and wait for the full ‘yes’ some other time?
Or do you increase pressure to get it your way?
