Slowly the trust & fun of exercises is coming back!

For a long time, Tango wasn’t very interested in anything but “horse life” but slowly I can introduce little challenges in our walks.

My idea: intrinsic motivation helps getting in shape and being in shape helps feeling better, which reduces stress and supports the weight gain. (👀not exclusively!)

With all my lovely animals in and around the house, I tend to forget one thing:

It’s an honor to touch them!
My energy has to be right, my stress level, my mind here & now and I can offer an invitation - and wait!

How much space do you need?

And how much space do you give your horse? I mean, how much space to roam around, but also how much can he decide in your training?

I try to give him space whereever I can. A video by gave me the spark to not only wait until he is ready to continue, but GOLLOW HIS LEAD and look at what he is interested in!

I could see the surprise in his eyes!

… After the horrendous weight loss and then the complicated and integration into this place & the new herd
… after being so many years apart
… has left me unsure how to go on.
He’s not engaging to play with me, and I won’t force it. Should I just take him on walks? Just sit and watch as I have done for weeks?

Sammy & I on the right, with my mother and sister 🦄
He was my first horse and taught me many things. When I got him, he was too fat to canter. Since I felt I couldn’t train him as the “pros” do, I took him with me on vacation, rode my favorite mare and let him run free.

This way he was free to choose how to move and how fast.
It worked perfectly, he came back better trained, less heavy and with a beautiful canter! It taught me, that my crazy, creative ideas might actually be good.

I learned about the preparation of long distance rides, little “ability” competition and rides long before I could actually worship it.

My grandmother introduced me to this world, and taught me how to prepare the horses, plan the equipment and think of the route. All was done without phones and only relying on paper maps.

It were my favorite adventures of all times!

I‘ve asked myself that question. My answer right now is: BALANCE. EQUILIBRE.

But I know from experience that being pressured into a role, a tradition or an expectation is not working for real inner & outer balance.

It needs to come from within. Intrinsically motivated action is the one key for success.

With horses as in life.

I‘ve asked myself that question. My answer right now is: BALANCE. EQUILIBRE.

The „wild ponys of Cantabria“
Living in the mountains, you can‘t go fast. Any moment you might face yourself in the middle of a herd of cows, goats or horses.
Although I know, their final destination (meetindustry), I love hiw these horses get to live their lifes.

I want to make a very unpopular statement:
These ponies get to live a better life than any of the boxed, shoed, pampered horses with endless ‘doctors’ but strapped of their natural ways.

Better short & natural than long & miserable.
