When Chicken and Honey moved in next to Timmy temporarily (while the chicks

However Timmy behaved impeccably when the chicks moved in with him for a few days and he was an absolute gent with both the girls and boys! 🤩

The last chick from Chicken and Honey’s first clutch left today….gone to another lovely home. I will miss them all but thankfully I’ve been able to keep this little hen that hatched last and have named her Pixie, she’s now living with Timmy. They’ll make a lovely pair! 🥰

When Tiny Tim first arrived he was looking a little worse for wear after he’d been beaten up by another male kakariki. Now he’s looking so much better and is much more confident. He always comes to the wire to say hello when I’m passing. I love this special boy 😍

This is Timmy (aka as Tiny Tim), he is a young buttercup boy. He arrived here a bit worse for wear due to being beaten up by an adult male kakariki. He’s had some TLC and looks much better and is much more bold now too. He is waiting for one of Chicken and Honey’s chicks to be a hen so that he too can have a lady friend to call his own.

When we had a cold snap early December I put in a nestbox for Honey as I had noticed her on the floor at night a couple of times, which I felt was not very nice and safe. She started sleeping in it immediately. After a while I noticed her less and less out in the aviary in the daytime so checked the nestbox and found some eggs in there! I had a dilemma as both Honey and Chicken are still so young but taking the box away meant risking Honey to get egg bound. I decided to give them a chance (after seeking some expert advice!) but was on stand by if I needed to take over to handrear any chicks. I need not have worried, they have been exquisite and super attentive parents. They had laid 8 eggs, but I took 2 away and one chick didn’t hatch. 4 were born on the 2nd of January’24 and the last one two days later. The first chick flew the nest on the 11th of February and by the 13th 4 were out, some of them returning back into the nestbox for short periods of time. They are all pied and beautifully marked. I am SO proud of Chicken and Honey and totally in love with the chicks! Here are some pictures from the day they hatched till now….

Welcome to my page about my birds. I keep cockatiels, lineolated parakeets and kakarikis. Kakarikis are aka New Zealand parakeets. I absolutely love these super lively smart birds. My favourite colours are yellow/green pieds and the all yellows often referred to as ‘buttercup’. I own two pairs in these colours and each pair lives in a large 4m x 1m aviary. Because of the inquisitive nature of kakarikis I spend a lot of time finding ways to enrich their environment. My birds are allowed to breed a couple of times a year and I may occasionally have some youngsters available although cannot advertise these here. Always happy to answer any questions so feel free to message me! 🦜
