Really nice work at close proximity to other dogs during last week's class. Each dog has a different personality and level of confidence, so we work with the individual in front of us and to their level which enables us to get some lovely calm work.
*Positive reinforcement works for those less confident and those who are more enthusiastic.
Please note the dogs choose which position they were stationed in, not the handler - this is to help the individual feel as comfortable as possible with the situation.
*Leads are loose to ensure if the dog decides they are no longer comfortable they can move away and the handler would take this cue and leave the area. Although this did not happen as session was short to help prevent anyone becoming too uncomfortable.

Off lead walk with me
Bertie loves his training walks. ❤️
I love being lucky enough to work with such a gorgeous adolescent, helping him figure out life in the human world and teaching him using positive reinforcement.
Eye drops, no problem!
**EYE DROPS ARE THE WORST***
Dottie has been needing eye drops. 6 lots a day!
This could have been a nightmare and created potential issues if we had not established strong positively reinforced handling.
Watch carefully and see how I wait for Dottie to communicate she is ready to partake in the activity.
Having eye drops put in could be an adversive experience....

Help my dog chews!
*Help my dog is chewing!*
🦖Dogs chew, especially young ones who are teething.
🐾It's essential to help them have an outlet for this normal and natural behaviour.
☠️In order to ensure their chewing is not on items we would rather did not get chewed, we MUST provide them with easy access to safe, suitable items to chew. Also, remember to keep items you do not want chewed away and train your puppy through positive reinforcement what is best from them to chew.
🐶Here is my puppy Dottie surrounded by her items to chew. I ensure in each room Dottie goes and in her crate are items safe for her to chew and express her normal dog behaviours on.

Crash bang and nothing.
*Firework Fear*
Having lived with a noise sensitive dog I understand how stressful it is to see you pet terrified when the dark nights draw in.
I learnt quickly how to help Jen, best I could to ensure she did not injur herself. Then then months (well actually years) of noise de-sensitisation and positive association commenced. We had Jen at the stage where she would choose to go outside to toilet even when fireworks were going nearby! To someone in the midst of a dog with fear of fireworks that seems like an impossibility.
Prevention is a must for this, so do for dogs of any age I would advise preparing for firework season well in advance. Here is my motley crew this morning.
Yes, they are not reacting to the noises, thats the point we dont want them to. That's how systematic desensitization works!
