How probiotics in your feed can lower phosphates over time, how does this happen?
1️⃣ Introduce beneficial bacteria (probiotics):
Probiotic-based feeds, such as Benepets, contain specific strains of beneficial bacteria that become active in the tank. These microbes naturally consume excess nutrients, including phosphate (PO4) and nitrate (NO3), as part of their growth and reproduction.
2️⃣ Bacteria consume phosphate as fuel:
These microbes use phosphate and nitrate to build cellular material (proteins, DNA, etc.).
🔁 The more they grow, the more they pull these nutrients from water.
3️⃣ Bacteria become food or are removed:
As bacteria multiply:
✅ They’re skimmed out by your protein skimmer
✅ Consumed by filter feeders and corals
✅ Compete with nuisance algae for nutrients
This means the phosphate is removed from the system naturally, either biologically (through consumption) or mechanically (via export).
4️⃣ Stabilizes your tank’s microbiome:
Over time, these probiotics support a balanced, diverse microbiome, which leads to:
• Better nutrient processing
• Less phosphate accumulation
• Lower risk of algae blooms
