So funny… We have been looking all over for different varieties of native Milkweeds to add to the back yard. Specifically, Zizotes Milkweed… We had found the Tuberosa and Commercial Milkweed. Well, take a look at what’s randomly growing in the front yard now. 😂 Zizotes Milkweed!

W**d Pulling day. 🥵 The kids tried to help, but found shovel rides to be much more exciting. HaHa 😂 Andres and I have been in a constant battle with the native Silver Nightshade that pretty much makes up over half of our yard. We pull and pull and more pops up. The Hornworms the Wasps don’t eat, get relocated to these guys and they help a lot too, but don’t take care of the root system. Maybe one of these days we’ll finally pull the last one 😅

Happy Monday!

We have 2 broody girls that refuse to get over it. 🤪 We may have to bring them inside for a few days… Bright side is after 2 days in a row of some much needed actual rain the garden is much happier. Some of our heat stunted crops all but took off over night. Rain is amazing! Thank you, Lord for such a beautiful blessing 🙌

My pint sized Sioux Chef helped make fresh salsa from the garden and gluten free breakfast tacos with the eggs he collected from our girls. Happy memories! 🫶 This little guy is going to be awesome in the kitchen some day 🙌

Natural, native yards are the best choice, but for those who choose to stick the suburban lawn look, please run from Roundup. There’s no such thing as a little doesn’t hurt. It does and not just plants you don’t prefer. That being said dish soap can be harmful as well, but it’s the lesser evil so far

Woke up to 3 new babies this morning which was a little surprising. When we went to bed there was one other egg that had pipped. We are still newbies at this and these are the first eggs we have ever had shipped. From what I’ve read, hatch rates can be lower with shipped eggs so we’ll see how it goes. Super excited about these Black Copper Marans eggs ❤️

Today had a very unexpected surprise! I thought I was going in to take the egg turner out of the incubator and go into lockdown today for the final 3 days of incubation, but this little one had other plans! So it looks like the egg turner is staying put and we’ll see how the next few days go. 🙏 Just checked in and we have a second egg that’s pipped so fingers crossed. Really excited about these babies. They come from Sage Acres, dark egg lines 🤞

Holding down the homestead solo has been exciting, but he’s Home! It sure felt like forever, but Andres made it back home safely from Germany and we couldn’t be happier. ❤️
