The Canine Connection in Chico, California is going to the.... CATS! That's right.. our "Clicker Training for Cats" live, virtual course starts June 4! This Tuesday evening ZOOM course is scheduled from 7-8pm and will run for five (5) weeks.

The course will focus on how clicker training can be used to teach cats to perform various behaviors on cue. We'll concentrate mainly on tricks that are fun to teach, fun to learn, and can help bring enrichment to the life of your feline friend.

Joining Dr. Sarah (owner of The Canine Connection and clicker training expert) in teaching this class will be Christine Fixico-Silver. Christine is a Certified Cat Behavior Consultant who will be available for a question-answer session about cat behavior, offered at the end of class sessions.

Since this is our inaugural cat course, we're offering it at a discounted fee of $150 (instead of the usual rate of $200), as a "thank you!" to all who are helping us launch our Cat Training and Behavior Program.

But wait... there's more!!

Besides this new "Clicker Training for Cats" class, Christine will be offering Virtual Cat Behavior Consultations (via Zoom) for those needing help with their furry feline friends. Grab a spot on her schedule now. She'll be available Wednesdays and Saturdays, by ZOOM, beginning June 15. How cool is that?!

When I first started fostering Nacho, his person had unfortunately passed away a couple of months beforehand. Nacho was just over 25 lbs. Over several months he now weighs around 17 lbs!

Cats who are provided with dry food on which to free feed who also have nothing to do can tend to overeat because they are bored. During the time period Nacho didn't have regularity and enrichment in his life, obviously he spent more time eating. He also loves dry food...

By limiting Nacho's access to dry food through small feedings and by providing more canned food, we were able to decrease his weight very successfully. Care had to be taken so he didn't lose weight too fast (he did not immediately take to eating canned food so it was a gradual process anyway).

I also found that he is very playful and his favorite toy is an empty toilet paper roll! So happy that we were able to give him a new and healthy chance at life!

First post in quite awhile, I'm getting this page back active again and ready to share feline behavior and health information!

April is Pet First Aid Awareness Month. Emergencies happen when you least expect them, so it’s a good idea to have a first aid kit on hand. If your cat has been injured or is experiencing a medical emergency, call your veterinarian before attempting any first aid. Always speak with your veterinarian before starting any therapies at home. When you go to the veterinarian’s office, never put the carrier on the floor. Cats like being high up and feeling more secure. Place the carrier on a bench, chair, table, or even on your lap will help to reduce stress during the visit. Learn more tips like this at https://bit.ly/3ry6tWP.

Laser toys can be harmful to cats and should be used with caution, if at all.
