PMP Christmas Auction 19th November 2024🎁🎄

As the Performance Mentoring Programme comes to the end of it’s first year, we are starting to look towards the 2025 season and how we can continue to develop the programme whilst continuing to better support the current riders and coaches on the programme.
Whilst offering a 360 degree support package to PMP riders in-and-out of the saddle, the programme is completely self funded and relies on your support🙏🏻

As Christmas starts to creep up on us, we have put together a fundraising online auction for you to get your hands on some incredible items and experiences, whilst continuing to support the PMP vision. Generously donated by friends, sporting legends and PMP supporters, there is something for everyone in the family, as well as loved ones, friends - and yourself.

The auction goes online Tuesday 19th November at 5pm and is live for just 4 days, and we wanted to give you the heads up so you can scout out your favourites ahead of time.

As the 2024 season comes to a close, I thought now would be a good time to reflect on this year’s results for the first cohort of riders on the Performance Mentoring Programme.

One of the main aims of the programme is to support riders in all areas of the sport. As well as their training sessions throughout the season, riders have had access to a team of professionals to help develop their businesses, stable management skills and ensuring they are looking after themselves as athletes.
Whilst I’m incredibly proud of their competition results this season, it has been great to see these young riders develop into professional athletes ahead of many more successful seasons to come.

Great bit of advice

Stop ‘walking the course’ and walk YOUR course🚶🏼‍♂️

When going out course walking at events, it’s important to take into account your horses flaws, strengths, quirks and everything in between; similarly, whilst watching other horses, just because the majority do X, doesn’t mean you necessarily should.

For example, if this corner was part A of a combination and I walked the distance from where all of the other horses have landed, it may make me want to ride a certain way; but in actual fact I probably landed an extra yard beyond that point (something this horse always does), so should take that into account of how the distance is going to ride and plan accordingly when course walking.

Are you more likely to drift left or right❓
Jumping left of centre of a jump might be the fastest line, but if a left corner is next and you drift left, is it worth the risk?

Does your horse have a naturally big or short length of stride❓
If a combination is on a half distance and the majority have added but you have a big length of stride you might be safer to go one less.

How many strides does it take you to change gears❓
How reactive is he to the leg and rein❓
Are you left or right hand dominant? How will that affect your turn❓
Is there a certain ‘thing’ that might be spooky near a fence❓
Etc…
