So, my youngest...my shy kiddo who used to dread bringing any attention to himself...the one who would step back and let his brothers take the spotlight...accomplished something special this weekend. He was the ONLY American kid to reach top 8 in his age and rank division at the 2024 International Wado-Ryu Karate Tournament in Tokyo. There were 34 kids his age and rank who were competing for those top spots...and Micah nailed it!

Thank you to everyone who supported him through this journey! He couldn't have done this without your help, beit by donations, emotional support, or by listening to his mom (that's me!) worry about the trip.

So, today was another learning lesson for Micah during training...he learned that Cheetos and salt water taffy are not a sufficient breakfast before he trains for the tournament in Japan. 🤨🤢

With that said, even though he felt sick and wanted to quit. He kept going. He even told his Sensei Emily that he isn't quitting. He's going to get through this training as well as black belt training.

DAMN! That's the karate and Mountainside Martial Arts spirit!

This past week has been the hardest because school started. He is adjusting to a new middle school schedule while maintaining his intense training at the dojo. Micah is exhausted. Micah has shed a few tears. Micah has wanted to walk out.

One thing Micah hasn't done....Quit, given up, or walked away.

This says a lot about his character. He is 12 year old who can work through difficult situations, juggle a hectic schedule, and train hard for the tournament (which we leave for in 8 DAYS! 😮)

But Micah, also needs a little help from you. We are still behind on raising funds for Japan, and we are leaving soon.

How many of us have found ourselves in a perfect storm at some point in our lives? Mine and Micah's perfect storm is this summer. We have been met with adversity earlier this year where funds have been dried up (emergency medical), but, Micah has the ability to compete in the Wado-Ryu World Championship in August.

This is an invite only event, and Mountainside Martial Arts was invited. We signed Micah up before we knew we were going to be hit with emergency medical, which, yes....is our fault.

With that said, Micah should not be penalized for this oversight. He has been training extremely hard 4-5 days a week to go to this tournament.

Please help him get to the tournament. Please help him with costs such as travel, gear, food, hotel, train fees, etc.

Full transparency: We have raised $1680 so far...however, the basic costs are $7400 for both Micah and myself to go, but that doesn't include some of the peripherals.
