Last night, our hearts broke again. We had to say goodbye to Mulligan 💔 At the age of 7 years, and after a 5 month battle with HMA, Mulligan passed peacefully in the arms of his parents and surrounded by the veterinary team that loved him.
Mulligan came to us over five years ago after being found on a golf course and testing FELV+ at impound. He had a wound on the bridge of his nose from the live trap and a URI but otherwise seemed to be a healthy 2 year old boy. We named him Mulligan because, just like in golf, he was getting a do-over ❤️
Mully quickly won over every person, cat, and even dog, he met. He was outgoing, friendly, unflappable, patient, and sweet. When the senior dog in his foster home didn’t want to be friends, Mully loved on him until Caesar finally gave in. They became best friends and Caesar is now grieving his friend.
Mully was goofy, energetic, and lovably rude 🥰 He would do zoomies around the entire house before vaulting onto the top of the kitchen cupboards, a trick he taught his cat siblings as well!
He would happily run across the faces of his sleeping parents to cuddle, or lay directly on top of any dog or cat that was in a spot he wanted. He also had the unsettling habit of sleeping with his eyes open, half on his back, and so deeply that his parents had to poke him to wake him up 🤣
Mulligan had many odds stacked against him. He had persistent FELV, polyps in his nose and left ear, and a slight heart murmur. Despite all of this, he shocked every vet who met him because he was otherwise so healthy! One vet noted in his file “incredibly healthy despite his issues! Sweet cat!”
Because of his current & potential health issues, Mully became a sanctuary cat with his permanent foster family. For over five years, he lived his second chance to the fullest, giving his family and fur-siblings more love and laughter than they ever dreamed ❤️ He was loved fiercely and will be forever missed ❤️🩹
In February, Mully wasn’t feeling well. His bloodwork wasn’t where we wanted it but we started treatment. For the last five months, Mully has been defying all the odds. His numbers were slowly progressing upward, he continued to eat, drink, and use the litter box like a champ, and he continued to love snuggles with his canine Bestie. Mully fought so hard, and continued to amaze his vet team at every weekly appointment, but he wasn’t quite pulling all the way out of it. Unfortunately, his spirit was stronger than his body in the end. On Thursday, Mully crossed the Rainbow Bridge 💔
We were all blessed to have Mulligan in our lives. He truly embodied our mission here at HindersHART and proved to everyone he met that FELV+ cats are worthy of all the love, care, time and effort that non-FELV cats are given. He lived a happy, healthy life for at least 7 years and the world would have been a little less bright if he hadn’t had that chance.
Ave Atque Vale, Mulligan ❤️
Hail and Farewell 🌈❤️🐈
