Ira is an 8-month old Azawakh, an African Sighthound breed that works as an intense hunting and guard dog and is not well known here in North America. At his training yesterday in El Dorado Hills, hosted by Insight Veterinary Wellness Center, he investigated the muzzled juvenile rattlesnake multiple times with multiple stimulations before deciding he didn’t like the way it made him feel and backing off. Despite being called a “sighthound,” his nose works fantastically also, allowing him to detect the scent station from a distance and, after a cautious double check, he further learned the scent means danger too, followed by the sound station. Then finally at the muzzled adult rattlesnake, he veered to both sides away from it, showing no additional curiosity and then went wide around it back to his person.

Loki was bitten under his chin and on his tongue just under two weeks ago when he investigated and then attacked a large rattlesnake. After 5 vials of antivenom, he’s back to normal activities and his tongue is healing 👅. When he first heard our muzzled juvenile rattlesnake buzz, he jumped back, barked and then came around to try to get it. Erick took Loki through our course instilling concern and a desire to stay away in place of a desire to approach and grab at each station at our clinic today hosted by Singing Hills Animal Hospital and he stopped short of our muzzled adult and went wide around it back to his family.

Grace went through our training 3 years ago. Last summer she jumped back from a wild rattlesnake at a park alerting her people to the presence of the snake 🐍 AND alerting an unrelated family in time for them to pick up their child that was approaching the snake! She came for her refresher this year at our clinic hosted by Dog Dynamics, Inc. just to make sure she remembered all the aspects which she absolutely did! Good girl Grace…Rattlesnake Aversion Training for dogs can help protect humans too! ❤️

Valerie Kattz joined us a couple weeks ago at our clinic hosted by and benefitting Animal Samaritans. She put together this awesome segment for NBC Palm Springs! Thank you for helping spread the awareness about this important training which helps dogs, people and snakes all be safer!

This adorable sheepdog was at first fascinated with the muzzled juvenile rattlesnake, staring at it intensely just a few inches from his nose. But, as he progressed through his training today at our clinic hosted by Animal Samaritans, he learned what they look, smell and sound like and upon spotting the muzzled adult rattlesnake at the final station, he stopped well short on his own and worked hard to figure out the best way wide around it.
