I HAVE ONE SPOT LEFT IN THIS ONE NIGHT CLINIC.

I am looking for Four dog/owners that would like to learn how to send your dog to his/her PLACE. Wouldn't it be nice to tell your dog "Place" and your dog will immediately go there. With Positive Reinforcement you won't even need to tell them "Stay".

DOGS ON LEASH FOR THIS EVENT, TO KEEP ALL SAFE. BUT, YOU MAY, AT SOME POINT, REGISTER FOR YOUR PRIVATE SNIFF MISSION WALK.
I APPRECIATE A HEADS UP, SO I CAN ANTICIPATE HOW MANY WILL BE THERE AND WILL WAIT FOR YOU AT THE PARKING AREA, AT THE END OF THE GRAVEL ROAD, AT THE START OF THE PATHWAY, BEFORE VENTURING ON OUR WALK.

Dog training has come a long way with regards to harsh methods or aversive methods to get our dogs to obey.

are banned in many countries. We in the USA are way behind. The science of positive reinforcement training, is real and is the best way to learn about humane treatment of the dogs we love so much.

Causing pain in training dogs is never an option when we can train without it. It’s laziness on the part of humans and trainers. We do better when we know better.

Directions for tomorrow's Sniff Mission Tour.

As you head south on Rt 89, put 3032 in your GPS. There is a long gravel driveway on your right. It's immediately after a green "Fayette Right to farm " sign And a group of mailboxes, and a few political signs. Follow the driveway and one of us will be up there to show you where to park. That address is not ours, but I think it will help you find us. We will put a sign up also. Heading North on Rt 89 put the same address in your GPS. Heading North you will only see the back of the green sign. But we will have a tour sign. Turn left up the gravel road and we will meet you and show you where to park.

Are you tired of walking your dog on pavement around the block, or going to a dog park where others do not control their dogs and you do not know if other dogs have vaccinations or underlying conditions? I am introducing an addition to my repertoire. If you are interested in walking your dogs without worry of running into people who let their dogs run off-leash regardless of rules, I am renting time slots to allow people to enjoy a solo dog sniff time. There will be no other strange dogs you will encounter. This is your time to have your dog on a long lead to walk YOU! Your dog will have freedom to lead you to sniff whatever your dog wants to sniff. If you feel comfortable you are allowed to drop your lead and allow your dog more freedom. The total farm is not fenced in yet, so that is why the lead is needed, as a security measure. All current vaccinations are necessary. If you wish to set an appointment to walk with friends and their dogs you are welcome to do so. I will also make appointments to walk your dog for an hour sniff walk if you cannot. Please contact me for more information. This is a beautiful time of year, cooler temps, and soon we will see beautiful foliage colors.

Resist the urge to tell your dog off for growling.

Growling is a perfectly normal behaviour and is nothing else but a dog’s way of communicating that they are not happy about something.

If a dog is trying to make the effort to say “you are making me uncomfortable”, why do we tell them off?? Because growling is deemed an undesired behaviour. No one wants a growly dog.

But what’s even less desirable is a dog who will skip any warning signs and go straight for a bite. Bites are super undesirable, trust me.

So if your dog growls, in any situation, stop and think what is making them uncomfortable. Is it physical touch? Is it someone’s getting in their personal space? Is another dog getting too close? Is someone threatening their resources? …

Respect and appreciate the growl. If you do, your dog won’t feel the need to escalate the behaviour beyond the growl. They will learn you got their back and you stop any uncomfortable situation. You got their back.

But if you do continue to tell your dog off for growling, and / or if you continue to create situations where your dog cannot effectively communicate, or if they are not listened to, they WILL escalate their behaviour.

Respect the growl.

Resist the urge to punish it.

Appreciate the warning.
