DID YOU SAY RAW WAS DANGEROUS?!!
This is still the best infographic I ever put out (credit Sara Nylund for designing it!).

I first used it in a seminar in 2018 when the very first case of a human possibly catching Salmonella from raw dog food materialised in the US. Compare this to 132 people infected with Salmonella in dry dog food from 2006-2016, half them toddlers under two years of age.

Since that initial post, there have been two very large surveys encompassing many thousands of raw feeders, one by Helsinki University the other is coming soon. Both indicate that feeding fresh, species-appropriate (raw meat-based) food to cats and dogs is apparently an exceedingly safe thing for the public to do.

And that's just people. Still today not a SINGLE DOG has been killed by complete raw dog food. Not one!!!! Compare that to dry's stats! Tens of thousands over multiple, recurring issues.

But who cares about truth, facts and stats, we got kibble to sell!

They use fear to motivate you to buy their junk food. They have to. If they could use nutritional facts or, dare to dream, a convincing study where dry outcompeted raw for something, anything, they would.

The saddest thing is that still today, with all we know, our vets continue to lap up the candy company vomit and regurgitate daily for pet owners in their clinics.

All the time we hear: "food should have the appropriate taurine content." But what exactly does this mean? And what exactly is this mysterious substance?

Taurine is an important amino acid responsible for, among others, heart function and good sight. It is a neurotransmitter, regulates the osmotic pressure in cells, takes part in the transport of ions in the bloodstream, and improves brain function. However, the most important is supporting the digestive processes. In case of cats, taurine, as the only amino acid, combines with bile acids and supports the absorption of fats from food.

In nature, it is highly concentrated in mice (whole carcasses) and birds. For some time, it has been assumed that the minimum amount of taurine in cat's diet is 800 mg/kg of food, and the optimal amount is from 1,000 to 1,500 mg. More and more cat food have the addition of taurine which amounts to 2,500 mg.

Taurine cannot be overdosed – if it is too much, it is immediately removed from the body. Taurine deficiency can lead to blindness, immune system disorders and heart muscle diseases. Taurine is a very important, valuable and beneficial addition to cat's diet.
