We have been receiving a lot of calls about baby fawns being abandoned and admitting very healthy babies that were accidentally rescued.

Fawns will often be left alone for long periods of time by their mom. It is normal for fawns to just lay there when you approach.

Here are a few things that might help to determine if the baby has been abandoned or needs rescued:
Crying out- making loud bleeting sounds
Approaching people or dogs
Curled ears like the picture above
Flies all around
Wounds or blood

.... one thing about the cicadas that you may or may not know, is that they will tell you what the weather is going to be for the day. They will tell you if there's going to be storms. Or if its going to be extremely hot they get very loud. So pay attention to their song and see if you can figure out what they're trying to say.

Poison ivy (and poison oak as well) has three leaves. “Fingers three, turn and flee” is from 1902 and “Leaves three, quickly flee” is from 1904. The rhyme “leaflets three, let it be” has been cited in print since at least 1907.

“Leaves of three, let it be!” was cited in print in 1959 and “Leaves of three, let them be” was cited in print in 1977. However, the rhyme minimizes the danger of other plants; poison sumac has 7—13 leaflets.

Similar poison ivy rhymes include “Leaves of five, let it thrive,” “Berries white, a poisonous sight,” “Hairy vine, no friend of mine” and “Raggy rope, don’t be a dope.”

_______ While I don't agree with the deep raised beds (due to the overuse and need for extra water, the Forest Gardening technique is something that is very important. Here is a good video of Rober Hart, of Shropshire, England, who is the person who reawakened the process of Forest Gardening. It is so much easier and so much healthier than the garden practices used today. Using wood holders for the edge of the gardens is a good idea if you want to go to the expense but using these deep giant pots is really a waste of resources. It looks very pretty though.

..... ..... One of Mizz Tizzys customers posted this this evening rating her experience with her purchases. The green beans she has grown and purchased from Mizz Tizzy's each year for four years. These are the Velour French Filet beans which are so thin, tender and have a high nutritional rate. She is kind enough to let me post this photo here. This is called a salad nicoise.
SALAD NICOISE
6 servings
Vinaigrette
1/3 cup lemon juice or red wine vinegar
3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
3 Tbsp finely chopped shallot or green onions
2 Tbsp finely chopped fresh basil
1 Tbsp finely chopped fresh thyme optional
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh oregano or tarragon
2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Salad
2 grilled or otherwise cooked tuna steaks* (8 oz each) or 2-3 cans of Albacore or white tuna
6 hard boiled eggs, peeled and quartered lengthwise
1 1/4 pounds small young red potatoes or fingerling potatoes boiled, cooled, and sliced.
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 medium heads Boston lettuce or butter lettuce, torn into bite-sized pieces
3 small ripe tomatoes, cored and cut into wedges
1 small red onion, thinly sliced or shallots / green onions
1/2 pound green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
1/4 cup niçoise olives or Kalamata
2 Tbsp capers, rinsed and/or several anchovies (optional
