Our compost bucket handles have been taking a beating lately, thanks to all the food scraps we’re collecting—so much that they’re breaking under the weight! 🍎🍊 But that’s a good problem to have, right?!

Instead of buying new buckets, we decided to fix them up with the help of our little DIY assistant. Teaching the next generation to repair instead of replace!

International Compost Awareness Week 2024 May 5-11 COMPOST…Nature’s Climate Champion!

What does this year’s International Compost Awareness Week theme mean – COMPOST…Nature’s Climate Champion? The theme highlights the role compost plays with reducing the impact of climate change by:

o Decreasing methane: A greenhouse gas more than twenty-five times as impactful as carbon dioxide, methane can be significantly reduced through recycling organics.
o Climate change mitigation: Compost’s return to the soil serves as a “carbon bank,” helping to store carbon and offering an answer to climate change mitigation.
o Reducing fertilizer needs: Compost improves soil water holding capacity, decreasing the need for synthetic fertilizers by slowly releasing nutrients over time, and enhances healthy soil conditions
o Increasing resilience: Compost helps to increase resilience to the effects of climate change such as drought and extreme weather.
