Hello and welcome to the Saving Sybil FB page!
We're excited to share the amazing journey this sweet girl has been on! From a high kill shelter in Palm Valley, TX to a loving foster home, this amazing pup has gone through so much the last few months.
Poor Sybil was condemned to be euthanized (mainly because she was heart worm positive), but thanks for the support of wonderful friends, family, and strangers, we were able to pull her out of the shelter in Texas and bring her to California. We'd also like to thank the good samaritan (yes, Cath, we're talking about you!) in Texas who drove 90mi each way to pick up Sybil and who opened her home to her for a couple of weeks & brought her to the vet so we could gather the necessary paperwork for Sybil to travel across states and come to California.
Heart worm treatment is expensive and lengthy, and we started as soon as Sybil arrived in California. You first start with a month of antibiotics (to sterilize the parasite so they cannot reproduce) and then 3 injections at specific intervals to actually kill the parasites. On top of her heart worm condition, Sybil also had a mild case of mange and had an ear infection.
Fast forward to September, and we just finished Sybil's last injection (9/11). She still needs to remain quiet for another 4-6 weeks so the dead parasites circulating in her body don't nudge themselves where they shouldn't be and kill her.
In mid October, we will retest Sybil for heart worm to make sure she's totally healed. We will also spay her and it will be time for us to find Sybil a loving family.
Since the day Sybil left the shelter, she's been showered with love and she's now a fun, playful and happy pup. She's extremely gentle with her human sibling (a 2.5yr toddler) & her 4 legged sister. She's adapted extremely well to her new life and she's just a beautiful soul, inside and out.
