So here's Popeyes story.....Popeye was born May 3, 2023 with a contracture of his right front leg. I immediately took him to Kentucky Lake Equine bc I knew he would need to have a cast put on to help straighten it. While he was there his IgG antibody test came back low so he got a dose of plasma also. He stayed a week having bandages changed every couple days. When he didn't improve we were sent to Rood & Riddle in Lexington KY to see Dr. Hopper. Yall know unfortunately I'm very familiar with R&R and also Dr. Hopper! He did an ultrasound of his knee and found he had ruptured the tendon that pulls the foot forward. He was not concerned he said......later I found out that wasn't true! Buy after months of splints and bandage changes the rupture healed but we were left with a severe club foot.....tippy toe club. Back to Dr. Hopper for surgery to clip the tendons in the back of the foot to allow the foot to sit flat on the ground. At this point he didn't even have a name bc I was afraid to name him, get attached and have to put him down. I told Dr. Hopper this and he just looked at me.....I said I don't care if he's gimpy I have a field full of old gimpys. He said HEY we're going for the gold here! We're being greedy and WE WANT IT ALL!! He has recovered from his surgery and was moved to a bigger stall 2 weeks ago. Today was his first try at turn out.....we are doing a little at a time but I would say...WE GOT IT ALL!!!! I can't wait to see what he becomes!

Hadn't posted my babies in a while! Left with bald face is Sparks Gunna B Flyin (pending) barn name Rip. Spooks Gotta Spark x Classy But Trashy ( Gunnatrashya). Right is no AQHA name yet but barn name Feyre (Fay-ree). They are filling out nicely!! C**t will be looking for a 🏡 .

ELI UPDATE

Well sure enough Eli stayed at TN Equine but was doing well and was coming home a couple days later...until he wasnt. Long story short he's still there. Blood work has been showing some inflammation but they couldn't find it so they just decided to move on instead of risking clostridium bacteria like he got last time he was sick.

Well he had one of his "breathing" episodes where he has a very hard time breathing...we thought bc of the faulty flaps in his trachea. The docs decided to trach him again before he got into too much trouble which did give him relief. To take a look at the flaps they decided to scope him and what did they find?!?!.....the cause of the inflammation in the bloodwork!! He had an access on one side of the flap. The went in a drained the abcess...cleaned it real good and closed him up.

Now bc of where the abcess was the docs are afraid that eating will cause irritation and won't allow the area to heal so guess what?!? The 2000 lb Eli has a feeding tube!

Hopefully this will help in this round of Eli saga! The trach will hopefully be out in 2-3 days and the feeding tube in around 10 days. Maybe a few days after he will be able to come home!

My week +.

Last Saturday..MWAC with Micky. He got hit by the tractor..broke his pelvis. Surgery on Wednesday to put a rod in.

Monday....which actually started with the birth of c**t #3 last Wednesday. Contracted tendon in right front. Immediately went to Kentucky Lake Equine. Stayed until following Monday when it was decided he needed more intense care so I made the trip to Rood & Riddle in Lexington Kentucky. Stayed the night with Ryan and Lisa and came home Tuesday.

Wednesday morning woke up to Steve saying something was wrong with Eli. Brought him up to.the barn and knew instantly he was having a repeat issue from December with colic and likely a displaced colon. Headed to Tennessee Equine in Thompson Station. Sure enough it was but not as bad as December.....good news but he stayed.

Wednesday got news that mama and c**t were ready to come home from Rood and Riddle. Also got news Mickys surgery went well he can come home Thursday......well no he can't bc I will be in Lexington picking up mare and c**t! I'll pick him up Friday on my way home from getting mare and c**t.

Left out Thursday to pick up mare and c**t. Again spent the night with Ryan and Lisa. So glad they moved to KY!!! Lol!

Friday morning pick up mare and foal. Got instructions on care and recovery for foal. Guess what?!?!......Mare is coming into foal.heat...need to breed her! Load them up and Stop at KY Lake Equine and drop off her and foal....she'll probably be ready to breed Monday so I'll wait to hear and then head up there Monday with stud in tow! Got I to Paris and stopped by to pick up Micky and receive all instructions on meds...activity etc. Beth...my sister in law....was there to haul him home in her vehicle bc I was afraid he'd get too excited about seeing Sally.....my travel companion this trip.

Now I'm home. Found out Eli is not coming home in the morning so I'll have a day or two to regroup...and maybe clean my truck!!

Well this morning started out with a BANG! My farm hand called to say "You know you have a baby out here?" Nope did not know! I should know, since Jackie was due April 24, that it could be any day but my head just hasn't been in the game this year. 2023 has not been kind and I guess I figured she just might stay pregnant forever and save me any more stress! Well I was lucky in that the birth was evidently uneventful but baby boy had a contracted tendon in his front right fetlock so up to see Dr Kim we went. I estimated his birth around 630 or 7 this morning and he hadn't nursed yet at 1045 so he got the works when we got to Dr. Kim's this morning. He did start nursing so that was good but he just has a hard time standing bc of the leg. Now he has a big red brace that he will wear on and off for the next couple days until he straightens that leg out. He should be home in 2-3 days. He's a little guy but sure is sweet!

It's been hard letting myself enjoy this little one after the loss of Petty. So much so that I hadn't even given him a name. I got to thinking about that and decided that I was being ridiculous so I finally named him. Meet Rip. No not "rest in peace"!! Spooks Gotta Spark 's barn name is Yellowstone so his sons name is Rip......make sense now!?!?

Story time....

This little mama heifer decided to squuueeezzee between the wall and the hay ring in the barn and escape with little Petty in tow out into the big field with other horses. I am not ready for that yet especially with a mama who acts like girls gone wild on spring break and totally FORGETS she has a child!! She's out running and living her best life while Petty is doing all he can to keep up! Sarge is running and in my eyes trying to kill my baby, I'm running and screaming every profanity that would make a sailor blush WHILE I'm convinced I'm going to have a heart attack. Steve is coming to help bit gets hung up with some issue with the gate that he feels the need to "fix" right then?!?! Finally I catch the heifer. I'd like to think I just out ran her and she got tired and had to take a break. I have a small paddock next to the big field I had thought about turning her out during the day so now seemed like a good time to do that. When I went back down to get her I caught Petty rearing up and biting Sarges face and him just letting Petty do it enjoying every minute! I missed the video! I guess Sarge likes him bit I'm STILL not ready to turn Petty out with the big boys yet! Picture of Petty when he got in from his afternoon romp.....he was exhausted!

With the tragic loss of my grandson, Isaiah Petty Saturday morning, I have not seen Lily's foal since his birth Friday night. I went to the barn this morning and was able to really "check him out" and get some better pictures. He's adorable! So FB world meet our new little man Petty. Baby watch tonight!! Lily's been running at 7.4 ph for days. Last night she jumped up to 8.2....yes UP! Tonight dropped to 6.2!! No wax but not to concerned about that. She's carrying this baby for my Shining Sparks mare and Modern Gun stud. Come on baby!!!
