Bonaparte's Retreat Saving Nashville's shelter dogs 🐶 and finding them furever homes 🏡 since 2004. 🩷 When Bonaparte died suddenly in 2002, Emmylou was heartbroken.

Founded in 2004 by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Emmylou Harris, Bonaparte’s Retreat is named for one of her own beloved dogs. Bonaparte traveled on the road with Emmylou and was her constant constant companion for 10 years. But her personal loss became the genesis of something remarkable. To honor the memory of her dear companion, Emmylou established Bonaparte’s Retreat in order to rescue shel

ter dogs and adopt them into forever homes. Today, Bonaparte’s Retreat focuses on rescuing dogs whose time has run out at Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control. Bonaparte's Retreat is dedicated to providing nurturing care for adoptable dogs when their allotted time at a shelter has elapsed. Our mission is to prevent these wonderful animals from being euthanized and to adopt them into permanent, loving homes. Bonaparte's Retreat Dog Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

We got good news! 🥳 Tinker’s biopsy came back from the cyst they removed on her back and it was just a cyst and nothing else! YAY!!! 🎉🎉🎉

She’s recovering well from her double hernia repair and has a meet & greet with a potential new family soon so things are looking good for Tinks! 🙌🏻

We are so sad to say that Hazel + Alice's fosters are moving out of state (we promised we'd try and stop using the crying emoji when we talk about it) so we will be needing a new foster for them ASAP. That's their doggy Christmas wish from Santa.

These two are crazy and snuggly and sweet and will keep you on your toes in the best way possible! They seem to be good with all people but do sometimes gang up and get a little crazy with other smaller dogs so larger dogs in the home may be OK but wouldn't recommend smalls. They are a bonded pair of siblings.

Cosmo made a visit to the vet for a full work up and the good news is he is negative for heartworm and we’ll take it! The bad news is the little guy has some work ahead. He definitely needs a dental, has what looks like a previous break and has a very messed up ankle, but the good news is that it seems like an old injury and doesn’t seem painful so we’ll tackle that later. The most important thing to tackle right now is his terribly bad skin which is very ye**ty so that is step 1.

He left Grassmere with his brand new foster who came to meet him and then take him home with her and she reports that he is doing great settling in to her house! He is doing some coughing so we’ll get that checked out but so far so good and he is happy as a clam at her house!

Tinker got some last minute snuggles in this morning with the BR team member that transported her for her surgery today. She will have the one hernia repaired and then, while prepping her for surgery this morning, they felt what they thought was another on the other side so she’s going to have quite a procedure today! If she does well they will also remove the small cyst she has on her back and get that biopsied so keep this little one in your thoughts today 🩷

We pulled this sad little 13 year old guy with a handful of medical issues today from our friends at Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control. Little Cosmo has terrible skin, was matted and desperately needed a bath and a grooming (which will come a little later), and looks to have an injury in his hind leg of some sort. This little punkin is a bit of a mess right now but it’s ok! We’ll get you all fixed up Cosmo! 🥹

Twiggy had a great 🏆 vet appointment today and despite still being a 3/9 on the malnutrition scale she is a healthy girl and is putting on weight all the time! 🎉 She’ll be spayed in the next few weeks and then we bet she’ll be ready to go! Dr. Clark also learned that her tongue works just fine and she is all about the kisses 😚 lol!

#GoodNewsMonday ✨ We had to send off more bloodwork for Alice because her original Heartworm test wasn’t definitive and it came back NEGATIVE today! 🎉🎉🎉 So Hazel + Alice are now officially available for adoption! Yay!!!

Teeny puppy Ariel stayed with our ED Heather this weekend to start socializing her while her foster’s were out of town and suffice to say we learned she loves to play, is great with other dogs, great with kids, seems mostly potty trained, great in a crate and, if you keep her nice and stimulated, slept through the night with one potty in the middle! She’ll be available for adoption in about 3 weeks!
