Co-founders Julie and Alexandra are avid dog lovers and adoption advocates. Julie has the privilege of being a mutt mother for 13 years and Alexandra a mutt auntie to Bijou for 12 years. Julie believes her "son-bear" Teddy rescued her in many ways as opposed to the other way around. In 2012, she noticed she couldn't find any dog calendars featuring dogs that resembled her own furry son. Julie then
came up with the idea of making a monthly calendar showcasing only mixed-breed pooches and "The Muttly Calendar" was born. Alexandra and Julie teamed up a few years later to help bring the idea to fruition. Alexandra's passion for fashion and desire to see dogs comfortable combined with Julie's need to find pet apparel that fit well and creative spirit, helped the two launch The Muttly Crew line. But Alexandra and Julie still want the pet parents and advocates to have some fun with the furry children being able to spread the word of the company's mission. A majority of dogs in rescue organizations are multi-breed dogs or mutts. They feel more products and messages should represents Mutts, not just by how they look, but how they enhance our lives and make us better people. They believe all dogs matter, whether descended from one breed or multiple breeds. And all dogs deserve a voice, whether they are considered a show dog or the family’s best friend.
