I’d like to start out by saying I have been grooming since 2007 and I absolutely love what I do. It’s very hard to last in this industry unless you truly have a love for the dogs and their owners. Now, there are two sides to every story and since one side has blasted me on social media I’d like to share my side. I have been accused of cutting a dog and not telling the owner. I have never cut a dog knowingly and not told the owner. Yes accidents do happen, we’re working with sharp tools and mostly moving targets. I can count on one hand the amount of accidents I have had and have always disclosed to the owner. Ms Abby came to my salon last Friday, she’s a 14 year old mixed breed and it had been 29 weeks since her last haircut. Abby was compacted with undercoat, her nails were very long and she had substantial matting and urine around her sanitary area along with p**p stuck to her back side. I spent 45 minutes alone in the tub trying to get her clean and even did a shedless treatment that I did not charge for. I spent another almost 2 hours trying to get her all brushed out and clippered. Due to her age and the amount of grooming that took place I needed another groomer to help me finish her up because her behavior wasn’t making it easy even with breaks in between. Around where she p*es there was matting, we call it “p*e matts” and only what I can only call a “gunky build up” I had to pull the gunky hair away from her area to get it all shaved and cleaned. Now this can absolutely cause irritation, think of not bathing or shaving for 7 months and then getting a fresh shave down there. When the owner reached out to me I kindly asked her to forward me the vet documentation saying I cut her and caused an infection so we could submit it to our insurance. She refused to do so, so we then gave her our insurance company information. I do not believe I cut Abby I think maybe she got an irritated p*e area due to the matting and gunk I had to clip away. But without vet documentation I can’t just hand over the refund that was demanded as I would be admitting guilt with out truly knowing. With all of that being said I will continue to put my clients first above anything els and we will no longer be grooming any dogs who go more than 12 weeks in between grooms as the chances for accidents, redness and irritation increase significantly. Hope everyone has an amazing and safe 4th of July.
