Hate to break it you friends but that tells a dog trainer you work on things but just some of the time. Let's be honest, life gets busy, and you don't always have time to train your dog. You can build routines so that these routines become habits for your and your dog.
Dogs are opportunists. So you need to be consistent. If you ask them to sit and they don't sit but you let them out the door anyway, you've taught them that what you say doesn't always matter.
When you start training sessions, you need to follow through. Meaning if you ask the dog to do it and they don't, you have to guide them or teach them that skill.
Lastly, it also means you are inconsistent with your praise/reward system. You either used too much of too little in the beginning and didn't fade it out as the dog learned the skill.
The good news is dogs aim to please and thrive on routine. So get started today, hold them accountable. Things might take a littler longer at first, but eventually, it will become second nature. You got this! 💪
Mean what you say, and say what you mean!

Stept 1. You need a long line. (I really long leash) attach the long line, say come, and lightly tug on leash. You should only br about five to right feet away. When they get to you, verbally praise them, have them sit or stand for a minute, and then release them back out.
Step 2. You need a landing point. Your dog needs to know where to go when it geys to you and what to do. Calling them to come is great, but what happens once they get close enough. If you check out our previous reels in our profile, i go through the exact steps. (Need help finding that reel. Just send us a message)
STEP 3. It's hard work coupled with a constant desire to reach a goal.Training dogs isn't rocket science, but it isn't easy, and it's not always pretty. It's like a roller coaster at times. It's going to have ups and downs, and that's normal!
BUT you must be consistent, every single time, every single repetition. Recall is simply a pattern of behavior your dog needs to learn. The only way to learn the pattern is to keep it consistent.
Step 4 and 5: There is much more to ensure your dog has mastery in this skill, not enough time to put in a post..but make sure you perfect steps one through three first and then reach out if you would like us to help in the final steps or get stuck in the early steps @camodogtrainer
🐾👉On a scale of 0-5 comment below how well your recall is. 5 is perfect 👌

New puppy or rescue dog in your home? Where do you start with training?

Good news is puppies are sponges. They pick up things pretty quickly...good or bad 😜.
However, if you asked me what the first skill to teach, it would have to be a "sit" and familiarizing them with a collar and leash.
You can use their food to hold it up to their nose and slowly move it back, and it will lure them into a sit. (Guess we owe you a video on how to do this!)
Second, start putting a collar on them and attach the leash or a long line. Let them drag that around inside your home. This requires supervision! You can start recalling them by giving them light tugs and saying come sns guiding them with this leash or long line, the second they begin to come you stop the little tugs. This is the basic step for leash understanding.
