Socialization doesnā€™t mean playing!

Wellā€¦it doesnā€™t mean ONLY playing. True socialization is having happy, new experiences. This could mean playtime, but it could also be exploratory time pairing new props, sounds, etc. with high-value treats.

This is a no-force activity. We allow puppies some freedom to investigate new things and enjoy yummy snacks in the process. If the puppy likes the treats, it will help them like the object by pairing them together in a gentle way.

We explore LOTS of things in my puppy kindergarten classes, because we want the babies to grow into confident adults. And you know what? It makes the class even more FUN!

Speaking of classes (hereā€™s my shameless plugšŸ˜œ,) September classes start SOON . Send a DM here and weā€™ll get your pup registered!

PupTalk has its own Instagram - Instagram.com/puptalkbyattapup

This page is all about learning and support. Itā€™s a bit more laid back and possibly a smidge more on the goofy side. šŸ¤Ŗ If you havenā€™t heard about PupTalk yet, keep reading ā¬‡ļø.

We have a new AFFORDABLE option for canine assistance - PupTalk!

PupTalk is a multidimensional service, and weā€™ll be rolling out different parts in stages. Our first stage is a more affordable alternative to private training thatā€™s available to anyone in the world.

This option can be a standalone service, or it can be combined with private training (virtual or in-person) for more challenging needs. Itā€™s also perfect for dog walkers or pet sitters who have rotating or regular clientele.

We really want to make help more affordable for everyone. Please share to help other dog parents. šŸ• (We just might offer you a launch discount code when you share in your stories.)

Hear me out! Garlic isnā€™t the demon weā€™ve been told it is. Garlic has the unfortunate luck of being related to the onion, which IS toxic. Darn family ties! šŸ˜…

The toxic component is called thiosulfate, and onions contain about 15x more than garlic. Conversely, garlic contains allicin, which is good for cardiovascular health. Youā€™ll even see it in commercial dog foods because of this. (Have you checked your labels lately?)

Fresh garlic is ideal, and there is a recommended dosage for this. In my house, Toby would get 1 1/2 cloves, and Kado would get 2 cloves.

Are dog trainers too expensive? Yes, Iā€™m honestly asking, and I genuinely want your opinion.

Dog training is an investment, but itā€™s an investment for all parties.

The dog parents invest their emotions, mental health, and time and energy in most cases. They might spend hours with a dog trainer trying to conquer a problem. They hopefully spend even more time with their dog practicing on their own. Of course, they spent the money to be with that trainer and money for treats, driving to locations, or accessories, too. There is a lot of investment for those pet parents.

The trainers not only invest their emotions, time, and energy into the sessions but also into learning. Those who are credentialed have probably invested thousands of dollars to gain the knowledge they have. Those of us who obtained college or graduate degrees have invested much more. On top of that, just because we attained the certification does not mean that we are finished. Some of those ā€œpieces of paperā€ require us to do continuing education hours and renewals. Renewals can cost hundreds.

What about the dog? Heā€™s investing time, energy, trust, etc. Dog training requires a holistic investment of all parties involved.

Still, we usually consider the investment to be cost related and often use that as our determining factor. So, I ask againā€¦. Is dog training too expensive?

Hi, Iā€™m Heather! Itā€™s nice to meet you!

Itā€™s been a while since Iā€™ve done an introductory post, so here are a few more info snippets to get to know me better:

- Iā€™m the lead trainer here at Atta Pup, but I sometimes will have assistants, volunteers, interns, or student trainers helping me.
- Iā€™ve worked to obtain multiple certifications and degrees, including: MS, LBS, CPDT-KA, PMCT, FSG-1, and CGC Evaluator.
- In my past life, I was a therapeutic horsemanship instructor. Iā€™m one of few who actually hold a bachelorā€™s degree for it.
- Iā€™ve also held three positions working in mental health.
- I volunteer remotely with .assistance.dogs (a highly affordable service dog organization.)
- Dogs are cool, but they arenā€™t the only animals I train. My rabbit does tricks, too.
- Being outdoors makes me happy, but Iā€™m rarely alone. Both my husky and lizard have gone kayaking with me.

What about you? Tell me about you or your pets in the comments!
