Cindy's Memorial Bark Park Cindy's Memorial Bark Park was built by volunteers in honor of Cynthia L. McGraw-Davic in the Borough of Port Vue. Who let the dogs out? Cindy did!
(5)

Cindy made her way to the rainbow bridge around 3:45 PM on Monday, October 5, 2015 to pick up Roxy, Diesel, Jersey, Gidget, Brownie, Tiger, Tweetie, Max, and Kristie so that they could walk the path to heaven together. She loved on every animal that she came across, even snapping turtles. Cindy’s journey to heaven was a peaceful one, as she was surrounded by family loving on her until her last bre

ath. She is survived by her parents, her furry children, sisters, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephew, and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, and many of her fur children. She is a proud graduate of South Allegheny High School, who later went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources from Point Park University. She was a generous, brutally honest, and loving daughter, sister, and aunt who excelled at growing the most beautiful gardens, cutting the ham and turkey just right, reenacting scenes from movies, and out singing and dancing everyone. She put her heart into making the best meals for her family, her passion into standing up for all animals, and gave all her love for her family and friends. Cindy will be remembered for her hearty laugh, many scents, songs (including Brick House), days at the pool and beach, walks on the trail, concerts, and so much more! Cindy wasn’t just an animal lover. She was an animal rescuer, a volunteer transporter, a volunteer dog walker, an advocate...someone who gave so unselfishly of her time, talent, and money to many animal shelters, rescue organizations, and advocacy groups. We want to honor Cindy’s memory and keep her legacy and love for animals and the environment alive for many years to come. Our first step in doing so is through the planning and installation of a dog park in the community where she grew up, where many of her family and friends reside, and where it would be welcomed and well used. After the completion of the dog park, we hope to continue doing projects that benefit rescue and shelter animals/organizations.

Looking back at at old photos and videos and stumbled on this one. What a blessing Shane Lawson was to us, for the dog park and the community. He did all of this for FREE. Truly a community champion.

On this day, 5 years ago Cindy finished up several rounds of chemotherapy and was preparing to begin radiation.

On this day, 4 years ago Cindy was fighting for her life and none of us left her side. We spent several days and nights sleeping in the waiting room or in her hospital room. Hearing the doctors tell us that our daughter/sister/aunt was being put on hospice at 46 years old was beyond painful. How could someone who was so full of life, who brought so much light, laughter, and good things to this world be taken out of it? It didn’t make sense to any of us. We prayed, sat and talked with Cindy, and even had some laughs with her, then we went to the waiting room to release all the tears we were holding back, prayed some more. And just continued that cycle of praying, releasing the hurt, and spending time with her. Cindy was surrounded by all of us when she took her last breaths. It didn’t seem real. So of course we went through all of the motions of planning her funeral from picking out what she would wear, to writing her obituary, choosing the casket, and the rest of the painful things we have to do when we loose a loved one. Cindy left her earthly body behind for a ranch in heaven with acres of beautiful land, hundreds of dogs, amazing celebrations and dinner with those who went before her, dance parties and karaoke, and flowers with endless blooms. Back on earth, her family and close friends grieved immensely.

Since then a small but mighty group of them gathered over the course of the last 3 1/2 years in memory and honor of her to plan, fundraise, and build what will be Cindy’s Memorial Bark Park to celebrate her love of dogs and the outdoors and keep her memory alive for prayerfully generations to come.

On this day, 3 years ago we hosted our first ever Bark in the Park on the first Saturday in October. It was a day to celebrate Cindy by having a festival for dogs and their humans, while also being one of the several events we hosted to raise funds for the dog park.

Cindy passed away on Oct 5, 2015. 4 years later, this Saturday, on October 5, 2019 we will host the grand opening of the dog park. Part of the festivities will include a live outdoor country concert. Some might wonder where the connection of music and dogs come together. Cindy had a vast array of hobbies, but one thing that she always loved to do and did a lot of with her family and friends was dance and sing her butt off at many concerts. So not only will we be celebrating the grand opening of the dog park, but we will also be raising a glass to Cindy for faithful work in caring for dogs. Prayerfully we will have beautiful weather and you will all sing and dance the night away as a way to celebrate Cindy’s life.

Thank you to Becky & Ed Jones for giving us a ton of plastic bags to refill the 🐶 💩 bag stations!

And thank you to whoever pulled all the weeds around the entrance. We went up there tonight to pull weeds and 95% were already pulled.

We are so very grateful to all those who continue to help make the dog park self sustainable.

In need of plastic grocery bags. If you have any, please consider bringing some up to the dog park.

Throwback to when the dog park vision started coming to life.

Now if we could just get ALL OF THE VISITORS to pick up after their dogs, all would be good.

Progress. It’s a panoramic so swipe left and right to see a 180 view.

Six years ago, we “broke ground” at the dog park. Amazing what happens when you have a vision for what the future can look like, and God lines up all the right people and funds to make that vision come to life. So grateful for the many volunteers who pitched in that day and the two years after that! Many hands made for light work! And today we all get to sit back and enjoy the beautiful dog park!

💔Cindy’s last baby, sweet Bella Beans passed away yesterday. We know that Cindy helped her cross the rainbow bridge and they are having a beautiful reunion in heaven. 🌈 Hug your puppies extra tight, and give them extra time at the dog park! Bella’s passing was unexpected and quick. She will forever leave a print on many hearts. 🐾 Anytime you see the logo for the dog park, I hope you smile and think of Bella knowing she was the inspiration for it. Cindy drove to Tennessee to rescue Bella in 2010 and we are all so very grateful that we were blessed with Bella’s joyful energy.

The entrance of the dog park was a mess…but just last week BET Landscaping Plus cleaned it up and beautified it with new plants, a ton of river rock, and pavers in front of the memorial wall. It looks sooo much better now!

🙌🏼 A huge shout out and thank you to Zachary (Eagle Scout) and his fellow Scouts and family for installing a rain catchment system so that we can have access to water to take care of plants and keep the dog park looking great! If it wasn’t for his volunteerism and efforts, we would’ve never been able to add the Rhododendrum‘s and azaleas to the entrance. Thank you so much Zac! We appreciate you!!!

Also a big thanks to EVERYONE who came out to support all of our fundraising events prior to the pandemic—because of your contributions we still had money in the Boro Dog Park Fund to pay for these updates. 🤗

We are very grateful for our community of supporters!

Someone is taking the bolts out of this sign. We’ve found missing bolts several times. This most recent time, 3 bolts were taken out and laying on the ground. I’m assuming they get so far then a car or person comes. Please keep an eye out and if you see anyone hanging out by this sign, snap a picture or let us know.

P.S. Larry loved sniffing and lifting his leg on the fire hydrant. 😜
