I have been as excited as a seagull with a french fry to share this throwback video! Micro Peggy grooming. This was seven years ago when she was about six weeks old. This video has been hiding in someone’s phone all this time!
I wanted to show off my skill at drinking water from a syringe. No bowls for me!!
Good job mom, taking video and getting me a beverage.❤️
This is the way we take pills around here.❤️
Peggy was having some out of the ordinary symptoms so yesterday we ran her to the vet. She had some tests done and we learned that due to her paralysis her gut is not as active as it could be. There is a medication that can help and I will be learning more about that and other options as well. She also has a UTI that we will be addressing as soon as the results from the urine culture come in. The uti is most likely also a result of her paralysis.
Since we are chatting about her health it seems like a good time for a whole update.
Tiny Peggy is a 4 year, 7month old cat. She currently weighs 5.1 pounds. Her weight was one of the symptoms that alerted us to a problem. Her usual weight is 4lbs 11 ounces. Suddenly she had a bit of a belly!
At 15 months old Peggy started having neurological and mobility issues that progressed to total paralysis from her shoulders back. That paralysis remains. Many illnesses were ruled out, and no cause was officially ever identified. We worked with a team of veterinarians that ranged from our much loved and trusted general veterinarian to a neurologist, internist and rehab specialist. We have been assured on a number of occasions that she is not in any pain.
Due to her paralysis we have learned how to express her bladder and bowel, this is done at least 4 times per day. Since her care is so complicated any people only outings are limited to about 6 hours, or she goes with us. Later this year we are hoping to visit the home of the biggest mouse and his friends, thank goodness for pet friendly hotels!!
A little known fact, Peggy stopped drinking water a few years ago. We have supplemented her food with water ever since. On extra warm days she also enjoys sips of water from a syringe.
Peggy is a super snuggler, enjoys naps in the sun, loves her people and her Mary Alice dog. She is also a big fan of her meals, which she gets 4 times per day!
