June's Bark-It List Originally a bucket list page. Now we use our platform to share special needs pets and fosters!

June’s Bark-It List was created in 2014 for my rescue dog June in honor of her 17th birthday. June passed away in November of 2015 and garnered quite the following over the year and half that her bark-it list adventures were featured here! June’s Bark-It List is still active and features special needs and other foster dogs looking for their forever homes as well as their friends. Currently featur

ed on JBIL: Nimzy (forever foster), Bobo (forever foster), Dash (foster brother extraordinaire), and Jenny (foster)!

June's "Bark-It" List is a project inspired by Muttville Senior Dog Rescue's Danny (RIP), who "coined " the term Bark-It List, a bucket list for dogs. In 2011, I rescued June from Daviess County Animal Control in Owensboro, Kentucky after her elderly owner either passed or was placed in a nursing home and her extended family literally put 14 year old June out on the streets. A police officer found her in the middle of the road in the middle of the night and took her to animal control where her extended family refused to reclaim her. I saw her on Petfinder in a moment of weakness when I was searching for "senior rat terriers" and drove five hours round trip in the pouring down rain to pick up the dog who would become my best friend. In October of 2013, then 16 year old June suddenly went blind in one eye. After the vet was unable to find any ophthalmological reason for her blindness, June visited the neurologist where she was diagnosed with a possibility of a brain tumor. Due to her age, I did not perform an MRI or CT scan to confirm, but accepted the diagnosis as the most likely scenario. After fully regaining her vision, losing it occasionally, having a seizure and now going acutely and permanently blind in late April of 2014, it seems that the neurologist's diagnosis was probably the correct one. Even though she has gone completely blind, in honor of her 17th birthday, I have decided to create a Bark-It List for June to pursue so that she may do lots of fun and unique things to live the rest of her life to the fullest and make everyday special. I hope you will join us along this journey and help her along the way!

Wow! Thank you so much everyone who has donated to The Bobo Fund in Bobo's memory. 🥰 We are already 70% of the way to our goal! This will help us start-up the organization and be able to help pet owners as soon as we receive our 501(c)(3)!

In case you missed it, I am in the process of starting a new nonprofit: The Bobo Fund will be committed to providing assistance to pet owners facing financial crises, ensuring that their beloved pets with chronic illnesses receive the essential medication they need.

If you would like to contribute to the fund to help pet owners in the near future, you can donate here: https://gofund.me/33e412dc

I will continue to keep you all updated, and share ways that you can help by getting the word out or even volunteering. So stay tuned. Thank you for your support as always. 🧡

This is when I took Bobo to get his picture with the Wienermobile earlier this year. 🌭

Hi friends. I am excited to share a project with you all that I have been working on for the past few weeks.

I am in the process of starting a nonprofit called The Bobo Fund in Bobo's memory. As you may or may not know, Bobo had both Cushing's disease and hypothyroidism. In the last few months of his life, he also had chronic pancreatitis and had to eat prescription food. As you likely know, these things can be very costly, but are necessary for maintaining quality of life.

The Bobo Fund will be committed to providing assistance to pet owners facing financial crises, ensuring that their beloved pets with chronic illnesses receive the essential medication they need.

It will be our mission to make sure that when pet owners are faced with a financial crisis, that their pets with chronic illnesses do not go without their required medication. Many times, abruptly stopping these medications can be very harmful to a pet's health and cause even more problems. Additionally, pets may have an ongoing medical problem that is diagnosed as a chronic illness, and symptoms can be alleviated once treatment begins, but pet owners may not be in a financial place to afford the medication to see if it helps.

These are the types of situations that The Bobo Fund will assist with. We hope to be able to help alleviate the financial burden from pet owners in order to improve or maintain their pet's quality of life.

As of today, The Bobo Fund is a registered nonprofit with the Texas Secretary of State, a registered "business entity" with the IRS, and is applying for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, but this can take several months to be approved.

This GoFundMe is to help jump start our fundraising efforts, which will mean that once we receive our 501(c)(3) status, we can help pet owners more quickly!

I will keep you all posted about the progress of the organization and look forward to sharing it with you all.

❤️ Sarah

ICYMI: Buster is our friend who we drove to Round Rock, TX this weekend. His momma very unfortunately lost her job and car and a very kind rescue is taking care of 13 year old Buster while she gets back on her feet--he is her BEST friend, so this was a very difficult decision for her, but it is currently 104 degrees here and she could not take him into a shelter with her. He went to the vet first thing Monday morning and needs a VERY extensive quality of life dental. If you can donate even a few dollars, anything helps! Thank you!

Friends! We have a sweet senior who needs your help!

Meet Buster! 😍 Very long story short, Buster and his momma ended up in an unfortunate situation where they lost both their home and car and were out on the streets in North Texas where it's been over 100 degrees every day. Buster's momma could not even go in the local shelter because they do not allow pets. His mom found a VERY generous rescue/sanctuary near San Antonio (about 5 hours from us) who was willing to keep Buster temporarily and help with his medical care while mom got back on her feet. They even paid for them to stay together in a motel while they arranged transport. We met her Saturday morning and drove Buster just outside of Austin on Saturday morning and met a friend of the sanctuary who took him the rest of the way... He is the sweetest boy, and reports are that he is doing great! He went to the vet this morning, and in addition to an expensive initial visit, the rescue/sanctuary was quoted ~$900 for a very extensive and much needed dental. Poor Buster has some of the worst teeth I have ever smelled, so this is more than necessary.

Buster's momma LOVES this boy. She even has a tattoo of him on her chest. I can't imagine how hard this was for her to give him up, even temporarily, so let's try to help fix him up so he's good as new for when she sees him again. ❤

The rescue is Cats and Dogs Forever Sanctuary. You can donate to them directly through Paypal to: [email protected]

They do not have Venmo, so if you don't have Paypal, you can Venmo me and I will donate on your behalf (I'll message you the receipt). My Venmo is - If you would like to donate another way, let me know and I'll ask the rescue what is best.

Thank you friends!

Friends! You may have seen some requests to vote in the America's Favorite Pet competition come across your Facebook feed... I was trying to vote for someone else's dog at the very beginning and accidentally entered Bobo because I thought I was uploading a profile picture, haha! Well, today he is 5th place in his group and he can't fall to 6th or he will be eliminated! I know you guys can help me bump him up to secure his spot. It's free to vote with your Facebook account. Thank you so much!

Hi friends! Some of you wanted to still keep up with Nimzy and I woke up this morning and was for some reason inspired to make her a TikTok, primarily for two reason: 1) I see a lot of dogs on TikTok in wheelchairs that people comment about how sad they look, and I wanted to share a happy wheelchair dog! and 2) I think the spirit of Nimzy is best portrayed in video, don't you? :)

Hi friends! Long time no see! I always think about you all this time of year. Thursday was 8 years since we said goodbye to Junie and some people even posted tributes to remember her which was super special to me that people still remember after all these years! ❤️

We moved to Texas almost 5 months ago! (Do we have anything North Texas friends?) And I was really surprised how well everyone did with the move since we had to drive almost 12 hours! It was really hot during the summer when we got here, but the weather is great now. We have a koi pond with three koi fish (Nimzy has dove into the pond once!!!) and a park two blocks away that we walk to almost everyday. The rabbits have their own shed and I can open the door and let them romp around the yard (before I had to carry them back and forth to the garage and it was a huge ordeal!). The weather here is a lot drier than in Tennessee and I think it has really helped with Nimzy's legs! I have hardly had to wrap them at all, and they've been unwrapped for months at a time, so that's a big deal! The reason they had to stay wrapped before was because even the tiniest scratch or scuff on her heels wanted to get infected, but now I only wrap one semi-occasionally. So that means we won't be doing Christmas bandages this year, unfortunately, but that's a good thing! I do still keep up with Bobo's Instagram, so you can follow him if you're on there:

Lastly, if you guys can send some of your magic to our Momma Kitty, who I know you all know, because she's been very sick the past few weeks. I don't know if it's something she is going to get better from, but just send some good vibes that she is able to stay as comfortable as possible.

Miss you all!
Sarah

Hey everybody! Long time no see. Dash is rootin' and tootin' and here to let our friends know that we are packing up and moving to Texas! 🤠 Yep, the whole gang: dogs, cats, rabbits (who will have their own fancy rabbit house) and all! And our new house even comes with three koi fish (names TBD)! Do we have any friends in the DFW area? We will try not to go so long without posting again and keep you guys updated on the move. Wish us luck and see you soon!

18/01/2023

Wow, I can't believe it has been five years since Nimzy was in surgery at UGA for almost eight hours, and she was only five months old. People ask all the time "what happened" to Nimzy, and the not-so reader's digest version is below. The neurologists were in actual shock when they heard she was still walking a year later, and she is still walking. She has run and even flown! It has been a very big journey of many ups and many downs, but she has been the most resilient and bravest girl. 🖤

Okay, final update on Nimzy. She had a very long afternoon of surgery and we have just gotten the phone call from UGA with her post op update. Right now, she's doing well in recovery. It will be a long time before we know if the surgery had an impact. The focus over the next week is keeping inflammation down as the surgical site heals.
I'll do my best to repeat what they found once they got in there. So....the "lesion" seen on her MRI was a long fibrous tissue that was wrapped around her spinal cord. They were able to very carefully p*el this away, they also drained the syrinx and were able to gather the fluid from the dermoid sinus (tract that was funneling fluid into the spinal joints).
The good news is that they were able to remove anything causing the cord to be compromised. So, this gives her the best chance possible. HOWEVER, there is a big chance that
permanent damage has been done to the derma of the cord that cannot regenerate itself. And we just won't know this for a long time. If you've ever know anyone with a spinal cord injury, then you know how long it takes to see progress and change if there is going to be any.
Obviously she is heavily sedated, but she does have reflex and tone and everyone is thrilled about that. What we hope for now is to get through the next week slow and steady. Our first big milestone is to see if she can urinate on her own, which could take a few days....but voluntary p*e is our goal!!!
I have been on pins and needles all day....for her foster mama it has been even worse. I'm not sure what her response was after I called and gave her the post op details, but as I sat down to write this....I found myself crying some interesting tears. Tears filled with every emotion. Mostly relief. But also, I think I cried a little bit because I am so proud that we could offer Nimzy this chance. I'm proud to have fosters that give these dogs a shot at life and love. I'm proud to have the best vets fighting here locally and across the state line. I'm proud that supporters trust us with their donations and understand our passion for these special cases. I am just so proud to be a Snooty right now. Thank you, for everything.
