Our pack contains an instant ice pack which can be quickly activated by squeezing firmly to rupture the inner pouch. Apply gently to the bite area but do not press.

Icing is effective at reducing pain and swelling because the cold constricts blood vessels and decreases circulation to the area. This vasoconstriction has the bonus effect of slowing down the spread of the venom :)

Do you know the normal appearance of your dogs gums are on an average day?

Being able to check this and know whether the colour you're seeing is typical or not it a very helpful tool. For example pale gums can be a sign of shock or blood loss. A vet may ask you to check for this over the phone.

Get used to your pups 'normal' colour and also train them to allow you to check them by gently lifting a lip - it could help in a first aid situation.

Have you ever thought about packing a sling to enable you to carry your dog if you need to due to illness or injury?

This is Koda and two years ago she was bitten by an adder some miles from the car. Being a beautiful Hungarian Vizsla she is a little too big to pick up comfortably for any amount of time.

Fortunately Koda's guardians did have an Adder Pack to hand but no sling. She has since been trained to be carried in one calmly for those rare moments that it may be needed. They never walk without an adder pack or a sling now!

Koda is the definition of a 'good girl' and her guardians are the definition of responsible dog owners. We are glad we were able to have a part in helping her on that very scary day. KODA ❤️

The controversial bells! This item in your pack and its use is much debated. Many people believe that the noise these bells make is undetectable to snakes but they do in fact have very good hearing. They can hear groundbourne vibrations and airborne vibrations via a dual auditory pathway with use of a cochlea just like ours. I guess we'll never know for sure, but if there's a chance they may help, my dog will wear them!

Part of the reason for is to help protect these beautiful snakes. Adders are a protected species under Section 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. They are an important part of a balanced ecosystem and they need our help to survive. By attaching the bells provided in your Adder Pack to your dogs collar, adders have the chance to remove themselves from danger.

This is the scariest photo. This poor dog has received an adder bite in a very unfortunate area - the elbow. Adder venom is haemotoxic to it causes localised tissue damage in the area of the bite as seen here 💔 OUCH!

Having recently refreshed on my Doggy First Aid personal
development, it raised my awareness that we are coming into the season were Adder's (snakes) are most active! April-July in the afternoons! And as doggy owners (and doggy walkers) we are
starting to enjoy the later afternoon walks! I have just invested in the Adder Packs (available on this link! https://www.adderpacks.com/shop! It is a really useful (and possibly lifesaving) addition to hold in your vehicle along with your first aid kit! The Adder pack contains instructions on what to do if your pooch has been bitten and includes the tools and equipment to administer to your doggy whilst on your way to the vet!

Some little tips my First Aid Tutor advised (Registered Vet https://www.animallovepetfirstaid.co.uk/) is that if you think your doggy has been bitten, minimise movement and carrying your doggy can slow the spread of the poison! Not trying to suck out the venom or use any kind of tourniquet as this is more likely to make the situation worse, and bathing the area with cool water can help with the inflammation.

However the stats show that only 5% of dogs bitten by an adder arises in death!

I have a new crowdfunding project!! Why? - you ask...

My vision for this product has always been to save as many of our precious dogs lives as possible by increasing awareness of the risk that adders pose to our pets and also the need for urgent care in these situations.

I am a full time practicing Veterinary Nurse, so Adder Packs were created solely with this goal in mind. Any money made from sales is immediately invested back into the promotion of this campaign to try and get the word far and wide that this life saving pack exists! My heart breaks every time I have to treat these patients.

16.2 million households own a dog in the UK. My wish is that every owner becomes aware of the risk to their dogs and even better - to carry an Adder Pack to help them in a moment of crisis.

I unfortunately haven't even scratched the surface of this wish in my last 4 years with Adder Packs. I need your help to get this message out there....
