❄️🐎 Winter with Horses Teaches More Than Riding

Cold mornings. Frozen hoses. Muddy boots.
And horses that still need you — every single day.

Taking care of horses in a Kentucky winter teaches lessons you can’t learn in an arena alone:

• Responsibility when it’s uncomfortable
• Patience when things take longer
• Grit when quitting would be easier
• Consistency, no matter the weather
• Respect for animals that depend on you

At Red Horse Training, western riding lessons go beyond the saddle. Students learn work ethic, accountability, and heart — the kind that sticks for life.
Because horses don’t take snow days… and neither do the lessons they teach. 🤠

Winter Riding is finally here ❄️ Here are some tips to stay warm during your lessons this season.

1. Dress in Layers
Base Layer
Choose moisture-wicking thermal tops and bottoms to keep sweat away from your skin and keep your core warm

Middle Layer
Wear an insulating layer, such as a fleece or wool sweater, for added warmth.
Please make sure it allows for movement and is not too bulky.

Outer Layer
You can choose a waterproof, windproof jacket to protect against the elements; a vest may work too.
Look for jackets with ventilation to regulate body temperature.

Bottoms
Use fleece-lined jeans or thermals under jeans that fit well and allow for movement.

Footwear
Wear thick, warm socks, preferably wool, to keep your feet warm.

Accessories
Use gloves that provide grip and dexterity; consider layering with thin liners.
Wear a warm hat or helmet liner to retain heat.
Consider a wild rag or scarf for additional warmth around the neck.

Safety Considerations

Ensure all clothing fits well to avoid any interference with riding.
Avoid overly bulky items that may restrict movement or safety.
Adjust your outfit based on the specific weather conditions and the duration of your lesson.

Happy Thanksgiving & Harvest Blessings! We are grateful for our valued clients, our diligent horses, and the exceptional community that makes Red Horse Training truly special.

As a reminder, we will be closed this week, 11/23–11/30, to provide our staff and horses with a well-deserved rest. Lessons will resume on 12/1/25.
