Mr Apollo enjoying some 1-1 time this week!

We’ve still got some work to do around other dogs as he becomes so excited and really wants to say hi. It’s hard to convince dogs that other dogs aren’t the best things in the world, because you’d be lying to them 😅🥲

We use a long line for the majority of our walks so he can make his own choices and do some exploring and sniffing around!

P.s no he hasn’t been stung by a bee on the last picture 😂

We have limited availability for 1-1 walks so get in touch if this is something you’re looking for for your dog ✨

1-1 walks with Mr P.

This week we visited the beach and had a nice explore using the long line 😍

Peter’s behaviour has come on so well over the years I’ve known him, and he’s turned into such a pleasure to take out 🤍

The end of an era ❤️‍🩹

Today was my last day. Camp Canine will be on a break for the foreseeable future and I can’t even begin to tell you how much I’m going to miss these dogs. Some of my 1-1’s have been with me for almost 4 years, the whole journey from Shannon’s Dog Walking, to Camp Canine. I couldn’t imagine a better group of dogs to work with in my 4 years of this job, every single one old & current.

Being self employed is so rewarding, but you lose a part of yourself when you have to give up your business, but this is all for good reason. These 4 years have led me to a dream job that I am super excited to start and put my all into. All I’ve ever wanted to do is to help dogs, and I will still be doing that 🙏🏻

To everyone who has supported me, from the start when I was bloody clueless, and those more recent who have given me words of encouragement when I’ve needed them, I thank you all so much 🙏🏻

My customers 🥹 thank you for trusting me with your babies who are now my babies and thanks for everything along the way ❤️‍🩹

No more cheesy stuff now or I won’t stop crying 😂 it’s not a goodbye it’s a see you later 🥲

Big love, always.
Shannon (& Stella 🧡)

Let me tell you, walking reactive dogs on those slippy surfaces was not fun but we got through it 👏🏻 so lovely to see all the dogs enjoy the snow and roll in the icy grass 😆

Weekend tip - enjoy the little moments with your dog. Instead of scrolling through your phone during your walks, be present. Let them go in the sea, go in with them 🤪

Sometimes we can be so focused on the negatives in our life, the worries and anxieties we have. When life gets like this, find the time to get out into the fresh air with your dog. Go on a new adventure, explore some woods or a local park, don’t rush home, appreciate the surroundings and even the rain. Watch them enjoy the world and enjoy every moment that they’re out with you. It’s quite magical.

So take your dog’s lead and learn to appreciate every moment, whether it’s big or small. Let go of anything else.

Just breathe, we got this✨🧘‍♀️

Bella, Koby & Howard.

Bella & Koby are booked in for weekly sessions working on everything you can think of. They are very high energy dogs and show a lot of stress & anxiety when out and about making it hard for their owners to walk them safely.

We’ve started by working on impulse control activities, and keeping calm by the front door, as this is where the excitement and anxiety begins to arise. We have also added a load of mental stimulation activities to their daily routines to reduce some of that pent up energy.

Both dogs are extremely eager to please and are already making amazing improvements in everyday life. Their owners just needed guidance on where to begin and they have taken everything in amazingly.

The last picture is Howard, he is just there for the ride and the left over pieces of cheese 😄😍

Let’s talk about ✨ CHOICE ✨

Since dogs have become domesticated, us humans control pretty much all aspects of their life. When they eat, what they eat, their walk duration and destination. We choose whether to let them sniff, how fast they can walk, how much freedom they are given..

You will hear from a lot of old fashioned trainers that dogs have to earn their freedom, but why? Why can’t they sniff or roll or walk in the direction they want to walk, or walk a little faster when they’re excited. I can’t imagine the frustration and fury it would cause me if I was attached by a piece of rope and being pulled along the street not being allowed to take in my surroundings.

To keep our dogs safe, we have to make certain choices - keeping them on a secure lead, walking them in safe areas away from busy roads, that’s acceptable. But next time you’re out for your dog’s daily walk, think about them. It is their walk. Instead of hurrying them along when their nose is stuck to a lamppost, instead of forcing them into a heel position, instead of choosing your route, let them decide. Wait while they sniff, let them have a lie down and watch the world go by, let them walk to a new part of the park. Bonus points if you introduce a long lead and allow them more freedom and choice safely 🥰

You will see a huge difference in behaviour when letting your dog be a dog. Allowing them to release all of that pent up energy and frustration they may have. And they will absolutely love you for it 🤍
