This handsome boy Hank is such an amazing cat. He has had a rough start to life but doesnt have a mean bone in his body. Please help us give him a second chance at life without his intestines hanging out. He had an umbilical hernia that was never treated, that has become a specialized surgery requiring a protective mesh. Any little bit helps.

I just did an interview with CBC Ottawa regarding a proposed cat bylaw in North Greenville (about an hour from Cornwall for those who aren’t aware).

Harper and Leni were very busy playing and Raea was on lookout to make sure her kids didn’t get out of hand 😂

CBC Ottawa wanted to get my opinion based on my experience with running a rescue, dealing with the , our cat crisis and their proposed bylaws after fighting for change with the city for many years.

The blame cannot continue to be placed on cats.

This problem is caused by a lack of effort or support from communities (relying on rescues to solve all the cat problems who are lacking in funds and lacking space for the amount of cats in need), cities not prioritizing funding for cats who are suffering in their streets and naturally reproducing at a rate we cannot keep up with, people who see cats as disposable or not worthy of receiving funding from cities (yes, humans need and deserve funding too!), a lack of low cost sterilization and cat owners who fail keep their cats indoors (harness/leash train and monitor or provide a secure catio) where they are sure their cats are safe, not using properties as a litter box and not harming wildlife.

It’s incredibly obvious that change is long overdue but who is willing to step up and help those of us (rescues) who are already working to change things?

We cannot continue on at the rate things are going because we aren’t making a big enough impact to be able to keep up with all the cats who are outdoors. It’s a constant burden to those of us in rescue because it feels like our impact will never be good enough 🤷🏻‍♀️
