This is Dawn, a one year old pit bull. She was found in this condition at the Walmart on Gresham Road. She weighted 24.2 lbs (should be about 50) and her temp was 92.7 (should be 101). She was taken to the vet to be evaluated and treated as much as they could do in her condition. First priority is getting so weight on her. She is heartworm positive and

was positive for intestinal parasites. She has demodectic mange with a secondary bacterial yeast infection. She also has yeast growing in her ears with open, oozing wounds. She is named after my cousin, a woman of Amazon strength fighting breast cancer. Please share this album to bring about the awareness of animal abuse. Her bills are going to be high because of the repeat bloodwork for monitoring , heartworm treatment, mange treatment, food bills, medicated shampoo, etc

UPDATE 6 MONTHS LATER:

Dawn is doing awesome. She is now 55 lbs, adopted by her foster family, has almost all of her hair back, will never have another puppy. She is working with a trainer to learn manners and is doing wonderful. She is a happy, healthy, well adjusted family dog.

Our Super Emmy loves receiving Christmas cards. Getting them and hanging them up is one of her absolute favorite parts of Christmas. As it is, this Christmas is very difficult because it’s our first without mom (and dad) and she’s struggling.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED SO FAR! We are so very grateful

Our Super Emmy worked hard on an Amazon Christmas wish list for the animals that reside here. These animals and caring for them is som**hing she takes great pride in and she’s so grateful for help.

Some of the most used items are potty pads for the senior dogs and 2 special needs cats, paper towels (same reason 🤣), odoban, and we really need to stock up on seresto collars.
She added a saddle stand on there for Bea. She was given a nice saddle as Bea still likes to be ridden, but it currently resides over the arm of the sofa.

We will be very thankful for anything received.

Emmy also asked me to collect addresses so she can send Christmas cards out to the Loves this year so please message them to us. If you’d like to send one to her, please send it to-

*****GIVING TUESDAY*****

Giving Tuesday is one day of the year where the most donations are received. The last two years, we’ve received about $300. We are hoping to beat that this year. Can you help us accomplish that goal? Pictures below is Bubby, a senior resident here who is scheduled for an extensive dental in a couple of weeks. His bill is expected to be about $1200.

Doug has been with us well over a year now and finally gave me a kiss today. He’s a very skittish, weird little dog. He doesn’t handle change well at all and only tolerates some dogs, others he wants to destroy and there is no rhyme or reason. He came out of a m**h house and he’s a bit off but we love him.

The flood waters have receded. I’m hoping we can get out today. It’s chilly and foggy but pretty out today.

The vet will be coming Saturday to euthanize Cookie. It’s going to be a very rough few days. Emmy is not handling this well at all, and I wouldn’t expect her to. They’ve been best friends for 8 years now. There is nothing like the love shared between a girl and a horse.

THANK YOU! We’ve received what we need for Cookie. Any extra received will go toward the purchase of hay for Bea, Ralph, and Rosie for winter. With the drought, we’ve already had to start feeding hay.

If you followed us way back when we left Georgia and moved to Arkansas, I’m sure you remember when Rocky Ridge Refuge sent Cookie, the lame mini horse, to live out her life being loved by Super Emmy. Well, she’s been very well loved and extremely well taken care of but her time has come. Her lame leg/hoof has deteriorated to the point that euthanasia is required. This was not an easy decision but it is definitely necessary.

As many of you know, finances are very hard in this day and time. Donations are at an all time low. We hardly ever take in new animals because we struggle to support the ones we already have. I don’t have the extra that it is going to take to rent the equipment to bury her and have the vet out to euthanize. I’m currently trying to sell some of my mother’s collectibles to cover it. If anyone would be willing to make a donation, no matter the amount, we’d be grateful. We need to raise $500. Right now I’m just sitting here falling apart because times are already hard enough and this just compounds it all and I’m feeling quite overwhelmed. Thank you for always being here for us. I don’t know what I’d do without you.

Frankie is gone and my heart is crushed.

The vet thinks maybe intussusception but we don’t know. She was playing at 11, threw up and had a seizure at 130, is now gone. I’ve never seen anything like this.

She brought a bright sparkle to our lives for 3 short days. She ran and played and barked and was so silly. She had a ball and I’m glad we were able to love her.

Life can be so cruel.

Frankie woke up this morning and ate a few bites of her kibble and drank a bit of broth. She’s let me know quite vocally that she despises a/d . She wants to play with the other dogs but I don’t want her to expend too much energy and most of them are terrified of her anyway.

Thanks to all of you, we raised $133 of her $144 vet bill yesterday! Our Loves are the absolute best!! Thank you so very much.

Thankfully it’s just a nasty case of coccidia. We are heading home with medications and fluids and loads of directions. Met a new vet this morning andi really liked him. Her bill was $144 if anyone can help it I’d appreciate it so much!

How many of y’all remember Vinny fka Van Gogh? We rescued him from Henry County, Georgia Animal Care and Control when he was a bitty mangey puppy with his ears cut off and sewn up with embroidery floss and a a broken hip. He still loves my Charlie better than anyone in the world!
