I’ve been so slack with posting videos and pictures of my sweet training clients because I’ve been so busy!
So here sweet Jax showing off that solid centre cue!
Yesterday was a rough one for the books to say the least. Sometimes I find it hard to juggle training, the rehab facility and my personal life. I am however so thankful for silly moments like these on a hectic day. Oreo is an 11 year old Shihtzu and thought for sure he had figured out how to get a reward. Last night we started this class off with an introduction to a place command. Oreo strongly believed that if he rolled over every single time he would get a reward (he did this about 6 times before he realized what was happening 😂). Yes, he got it after, and yes you can teach an old dog new tricks!
Last week we introduced Remi to the treadmill! We got him use to the sound of it while it was going as well as getting him up on it while it wasn’t. When I walked in tonight Remi ran straight to it and was ready to rumble! We are working on short intervals with it on a slow speed to show him what a positive experience it can be! Love you Remi!
Alaska showing off her off leash work with a high level of distraction! So proud of her and her mama for all the work they put in!
Practicing non verbal hand commands and removal of rewards for training! Blu rocking it!
My new walk and train buddy sweet Leah! Such a smart girl. 20 min of heal, focus and loose leash training and she had it down path eye contact and all! Of course consistency is key and we aren’t finished yet but she’s off to an amazing start!
Just some puppy class fun from yesterday ♥️
Tonight’s puppy class rocked their off leash work with all their puppy friends around ♥️ beyond proud of these guys
FEEL GOOD FRIDAY! I want everyone to meet Sophie, some of you may already know her story but for those who don’t here it is.
Sophie was removed from a hoarding situation and was taken into the care of the amazing people from EVSPCA. Sophie was adopted and returned back to the shelter again. They put out a request for a foster and once I read her story I knew that I had to help this wonderful animal get the life she deserved. I found a foster home for Sophie in the clarenville area with an absolutely AMAZING couple and began to work with her for free. Sophie had a lot of fears to overcome. The first one we tackled was her fear of people, with the work of her foster family Sophie learned that people aren’t bad.
After this we had to tackle Sophie’s fear of dogs which we only just began working on as we have to take things in baby steps with Sophie. Sophie was extremely reactive to other dogs, she was so fearful even looking at them from a distance would trigger her. After doing some distance work with Sophie I decided to introduce her to my behavioural modification class while they were doing a calming exercise as the energy in the room was low and it was a good energy to bring Sophie into. As you can see she rocked it! For some this may be seen as baby steps, for Sophie, her foster family and myself this is a HUGE step to have her inside of a room with all these dogs and absolutely no reaction just observation. It just goes to show patience and consistency with training pays off in the long run. No problem is fixed over night it takes patience and time.
A special thank you to Sophie’s foster family for everything you guys have done for her, you are angels.
Another special thanks to the EVSPCA for giving this amazing girl the chance she deserved at a wonder life.
