About Mohawk Farmer

Mohawk Farms is an exciting new company that meets an unsatiated need for quality salad and micro-greens. The close proximity to Brantford-Hamilton ensures a steady flow of customers. Mohawk Farms is a start-up grower and distributor of exotic salad and micro-greens for restaurants and individual consumers. Mohawk Farms is located in Brantford, Grand River Country and serves southern Ontario.

Products

Mohawk Farms sells year-round tomatoes; pre-season tomato plants/mohawk pepper plants, micro-greens and spring mix of salad field greens. These greens will include but are not limited to: red leaf, arugula, radicchio, mustard greens, endive, and chicory. Micro-greens will include but are not limited to: Chinese Cabbage (Napa cabbage), Radish (red or Daikon), Turnip, Pac Choi (Bok Choy), Sesame, Cress, Lettuce, Asian Greens, Endive, Mustard, Sweet Basil, Sunflower, Sorrel or Marjoram, Fennel or Dill, Cilantro, Carrot, Beet or Chard, H**p, Pea, Red Russian Kale, Thai Basil. These greens are grown for use in salad mixtures, purchased by the end consumer as well as by restaurants who then serve it to their patrons. Plants at three stages are be provided at a year round basis, seedlings or microgreens, one liter & three liter single plant sizes.

The Market

Mohawk Farms targets two distinct market segments, individual customers and restaurants. Individual customers can purchase greens from Mohawk Farms at the Friday and Saturday Farmer’s Market.

Management

Mohawk Farms is led by Benjamin Doolittle a fraternal member of the Sha’tekari:wate; one of nine sub-clans of the Mohawk (Kanienkehaka) Confederacy. Benjamin initially got his start in growing while working with his Great-Grandfather Daniel Butler. This experience is what solidified Benjamin’s desire to continue working in an agricultural capacity. Learning ancient and modern farming techniques first hand with his Great-Grandfather has provided him with requisite detail and trade-skills to develop his own farm business.

Mohawk Farmer is a proud sponsor of the Mohawk Dictionary and Kanien’keha Endangered Language Initiative. One way we are able to help, we have added the mohawk word for each plant on our products.
