Recurring Donations

For quite awhile now we have received requests to create a recurring donation to our Florida Rat Rescuers Network 501c3 Non Profit Rescue.

We absolutely appreciate the love, support and desire to contribute to our work here. However, as a smaller rescue, we didn't have the capability to arrange this.

This year, we decided to streamline our office work through ShelterLuv. This has been amazing on so many levels.

We are proud to share that WE ARE NOW able to provide a way for a recurring donation via ShelterLuv.

To set-up a recurring donation, please click the following link and follow the easy step by step guide:

https://checkout.shelterluv.com/donate/FRRN

Or you can text: FRRN to 89871 and set it up via your mobile.

Thank you in advance to all who decide to participate in this program. A special shout out to our fellow Director, Sarah Ratkwēn, for being the first to pilot this process for us!

Yours,
Lori Kemp

*Trigger Warning- Animal Neglect and Death*

It is with great sadness that we post this update on the Cemetary Girls.

One of the six (6) girls, whom we called Querida, had an enormous tumor that had opened up (second pic).

We were able to get an appointment with one of our most trusted vets. She went into surgery yesterday and passed while undergoing surgery.

The tumor was worse than we could have anticipated with necrotic tissue and infected. Querida's system couldn't handle anymore. :-(

THIS could have been prevented. If help would have been sought out when this tumor first appeared, this would have been a simple and affordable case.

The other 5 (Vampira, Elvira, Morticia, Wednesday and Drusilla) are now mourning their missing sister.

We are still working on their intake and making sure they are all well and stable. If you would like to donate to help our efforts, our PayPal can be used: Paypal.me/flratrescuers.

You will forever be missed little one ❤️

These three (3) petite little ladies are searching for their forever homes.

They are roughly 12 weeks old and the sissies to the boys in the previous post (please read for their history).

These girls are active and curious. They enjoy long walks on flat surfaces and being fed exquisite noms.

If interested in adopting, please reach out to us. We can send you the adoption form and set up an interview.

ADOPTION ALERT:

We have 3 fine young gents looking for their forever homes.

Roughly around 12 weeks, they came into our rescue as a result of a snake breeder quitting their operations.

One of the partners wanted to euthanize them all, the second couldn't allow that to happen. He reached out to us in hopes that we could take them all in before their partner took matters into her own hands.

Part of that rescue included a couple of females who ended up being pregnant.

Our amazing foster in Oakland Park, FL took in a pregnant momma and has helped with these babies. As you can see, she is also a great rattographer!!

If you are interested in adopting these sweet boys, please reach out to us!! We can send you the adoption form and set-up an adoption interview.

HAPPY WORLD RAT DAY EVERYONE!!!

How does everyone celebrate WRD with their babies? Special treats? Extra free roam time? Mini pool parties?!

Let us know down below how you spoil your babies down below 😀

Pictured are 'Tammy and Louise'. We were able to assist the Florida Keys SPCA with getting these two girls to their new home in Bonita Springs.

Felt this photo was fitting for today!!!

KERMIT UPDATE!!!

Surgery went well... and some swelling aside... he's just as handsome as ever.

Eating and drinking well. We're not sure he's even realized his eyes are missing 😂

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED AND HELPED MAKE THIS POSSIBLE!!

As a smaller, foster based rescue we try our best to make sure each animal is properly cared for and treatment isn't delayed.

Your donations help this process move quickly! We are forever grateful for the love and support we receive for Kermit and our other fosters/sanctuary cases.

If you would like to support our cause, our rescue paypal is linked in our last post. We are working up on setting up a ShelterLuv account as well!

We just dropped Kermit off for his eye surgery at West End.

As it stands we’re $188 away from the goal to cover his high end estimate. Thank you all so much for the support, donations and shares to get him the help he needs. It's been a blessing to see how many people care about this little guy ❤️

We'd love to hit his goal to make sure everything is covered, and if the surgery does end up being on the lower end of the estimate then all funds will stay in our vet account to continue to assist with cases just like Kermit in the future.

Please send good wishes for surgery today! We'll update when he’s all done. 🙏 🐀

Good Afternoon !!

This is Kermit. She was surrendered to us due to the owner's inability to continue caring for her. She was well loved but unfortunately they ended up homeless.

Kermit suffers from dreadful entropion (which is an unfortunate issue with hairless rats). Her owner did see a vet for the eyelid procedure and was told that was purely for cosmetic reasons...

Unfortunately, due to this, poor Kermit now faces a double enucleation. The current cost is $608.75 not including pain meds. (This is with a gracious rescue discount from West End Animal Hospital).

We have set our goal at $700 in anticipation of med costs.

Donations are greatly needed and appreciated. Anything helps greatly! Our PayPal is: Paypal.me/flratrescuers

Thank you!!!

UPDATE 3/15/23 (15:15): You guys are AMAZING!! We have $223 of the $700.

It’s giving Tuesday!
🐀
Florida Rat Rescuers Network has seen some wonderful growth and improvements this year, all for the advancement of our goals. For that we are extremely grateful.
🐀
During this time of giving, please consider helping us continue on in our mission to rescue, rehabilitate and find quality homes for rats in our Florida community. We strive to serve as many rat and rat owners and as much of the area as possible, but 2022 has seen unprecedented requests for rescue and surrender with a drop in support.
🐀
We need your help to continue serving these pets in need. Donate, share, or volunteer- every action no matter how small makes a difference to these tiny bit precious lives!

SPAYED AND NEUTERED RATS AVAILABLE

The following rats available for adoption in Gainesville. We have a transport happening TODAY from Gainesville to the Dunedin/Tampa/St Pete area, and possibly more stops. If you’re along this route or can travel to it and would like to adopt, please comment below. I’ll attach all pics and info here in this post, apologies for the less than ideal pics but I’ll retake photos for anyone left this weekend. Fees and info below. All fees go back into our group for care and medical costs.

Group One- 3 spayed agouti/berk females, ideally going together. 75 for all 3 or 50/e. From Sumter county rescue. Timid but very sweet, on the younger side. Very rat friendly and easy to integrate. Get along well but not necessarily bonded.

ADOPTED - Group Two- 3 LARGE men (neutered), fancy coat types. Seem older but not elderly. Healthy and curious, not timid. From Alachua county cruelty case. 80 for the trio if kept together or 40/e. Unsure if they are bonded but they get along well. All dumbos.

ADOPTED- Group Three-
DUMBO ALERT
3 very young, scared spayed girls. 2 grey mask and one grey short hooded/capped. Scared and jumpy but not nippy, very young and workable for one willing. 20 for the trio I think they need to stay together for their social needs and am waiving most of their fee to reflect that. All appear healthy best I can tell, no sniffles. Alachua cruelty case.

Group 4
DUMBO ALERT
5+1 agouti masked and capped boys. All neutered. 5 youngsters same age as the above girls and one slightly older male. Timid but super curious, easy to handle. Half are dumbos, all appear healthy with no sniffles. One big has a p***s that has gotten a little stuck but it’s back in now. Alachua cruelty case. 40/e, 60 for pairs and 85 total for trios or more. P***s boy is waived. Should be easy to warm up to you and integrate with other rats, all get along well and pile.

DANNY AND TANNER-

These sweet boys are in search if their own sitcom: Rat House!

They came to us from very different backgrounds.

Tanner- Fawn Hooded (Estimated 4 months old)- Was used for an educational program that takes rats from pet stores. They use them for their purposes and then they are used as feeders for the snakes in their program. A friend's niece was in the program and brought him to us instead.

Danny- Cream Hooded (Estimated 3 months old)- Was found outside by a pair of good Samaritans. They took him in and reached out to us. We thought he was a pew until he had a bath... surprise! 😅

We decided to intro them and they loved each other INSTANTLY. Tanner was named by the kids at the program so logically we named the other boy Danny.

Looking for their own Joey, Uncle Jesse, Michelle, DJ or Stephanie... 😅

Please contact us if you'd like to discuss these boys :-)

🐀🐀🐀

We would like to thank our friends at Florida Rat Rescuers Network for pulling 12 rats into their program! Rats are very social and intelligent and make wonderful companions. We know they are in great hands! 🐀❤️

MASSIVE SPAY UPDATE:

The last group of girls were completed today.

One girl had an active pyometra (uterine infection), spaying is the cure for this. She would have been a ticking time bomb.

A second girl had a hydrometra, again, the spaying also treats this.

The timeliness of these surgeries, all thanks to your generous donations, has literally saved the lives of these two girls.

Not to mention that spaying, before 1 year of age, has also been proven to severely decrease tumors in female rats.

We want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all you that donated. We may not have reached the ultimate goal but we were able to raise enough for the surgeries.

Again, these girls will be up for adoption. Fees are as follows: 1 spayed female 50, 2 females for 65 and 3 for 75.

The surgeon herself commented on how sweet these girls were considering the condition they were surrendered in!!

If interested, please comment down below!

Big rescue update!

Today our amazing gold star volunteer Melissa B got the last 31 of the group of 56 rats surrendered to a rural FL shelter out, hooray! Thanks so much to those who stepped up to support us with donations, foster homes and transport help.

What now?

Well we still need a lot of help! 10 rats are going to the wonderful A HOPE Rescue org in North Fl. 21 are coming back with our fosters for spay surgeries to hopefully avoid any more pregnancies from this group and to make them healthier and easier to place into loving homes in the long run. We are still in need of about $650 to cover the cost of these spays. We are also in need of local fosters to get the second group of girls to and from their surgery appointments next week (only two days of transport needed). If you’re in Jacksonville, Fl and can host these lovely ladies for about a week we’d love to hear form you today!

Finally we will most importantly need loving homes for these guys. Taking on 50+ rats while we get surrender requests daily from the community was not in any way ideal, but we had to help these guys out. They deserve to live full, healthy lives away form feeder bins and without being stressed and bred constantly for human gain. If you can offer a soft place to land for a few of these sweeties please reach out to us here to apply, or join our networking group to see who’s currently available.

Anyone not snapped up through our networking group will be posted to our website as they recover and we get full intake information.

Fundraising Request!
We have been asked to help with a large intake of 50+ surrendered rats at a rural fl shelter. While the admin team is discussing details, all viable plans will at the very least require funding for supplies, vetting and care ASAP as the shelter is not equipped to care for small mammals long term.

We will be making a detailed post about the situation once assessed this weekend. All kinds of help will be needed then- transport, funding, fosters, adopters, supply donations etc.

For now if you’re able to help with the anticipated vetting costs you may do so at this link:
