Our Story

In December 2005, Duke the Bassett Hound joined my family. He was a clumsy, little puppy with the longest ears in the world. He was the best Christmas gift my family could have ever asked for. Throughout his life, Duke was diagnosed with numerous health issues including Addison’s disease, food allergies, and chronic ear infections. But Duke was the best and sweetest dog through everything.

Duke’s Addison’s disease diagnosis came when I was beginning to think about what I wanted to be when I grew up. Throughout his entire life, we battled with Addison’s and his other health issues. Doing research on his conditions, the treatment options, and talking with his veterinarian really planted the thought of veterinary medicine in my head. Duke was the one who sparked my interest in veterinary medicine. As a way to honor and thank him, I wanted to start Duke’s ‘Danas.

One day, our family got the worst news ever: Duke had cancer. He was diagnosed with lymphoma and was given a short time left. As a family, we made his last few months the best on earth. Sadly, Duke passed away at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on May 21st, 2015.
