🪸When I started in this hobby in May 2022 I believed that I was looking after fish and coral in my saltwater reef aquariam.

🚫I was wrong....

💁🏻Firstly, make sure you're following **er if you want more tips and hacks for your first saltwater reef tank.

🚰If you keep your water quality high and stable your fish and coral will thank you.

🐠Even more than that if you let it drop low enough you will actually kill them.

❤️‍🩹You'll get healthy coral and livestock, their colours will be more vibrant.

🧑‍⚕️If your fish are in good condition, and in good quality water they are more likely to fight pests.

📊More stable water means less likelyhood of nuisance algae such as hair algee.

💦We are looking after water not fish and coral like I first thought!

🌊It's one of the main reasons I am in the regular water change club and test regularly.

👷🏻I do.....

🚰Weekly 10% water changes with .aquatics blue bucket salt.

📊Dosing and ICP tests from PH plus two part and trace elements.

🧪Home weekly water tests with phosphate (PO₄³⁻), nitrate (NO3-), alkalinity (dKH), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg)

🚿Nano Water Change Barrel Pump from (TMC)

🪸I have had a number of DMs recently asking how they can change their tank quickly.

🐠Or they've try to change too much too quickly and ended up with a problem.

👷🏻I have a small tank maintenance side hustle and I did a consultation today for a tropical tank.

🤦🏻They had changed 50% of the water, stripped the canister filter and washed the filter media in tap water.

🐟They had done the right thing, maintenance. But too much too soon and after not doing anything for 6 months.

🧪Same goes if you have high nitrates, don't try to bring them down from 60 to 10 over night.

🚫Your tank will not thank you, your corals won't and your fish won't!

⏳It probably took you months to get into the situation, it will probably take months to get out of it!

🐠 I got into this hobby because of a brilliant mixed reef display tank which had been running for approximately 4 years.

🪸I wanted that look as soon as possible, and I am sure you are the same. But adding livestock too quickly is not the answer.

😊My tank is coming up to two years old and has been hitting its stride for the last 6 months.

🐟Reefs are sensitive ecosystems, and one common mistake new re**ers make is adding too many fish too quickly, disrupting the delicate balance of the tank.

💩I recommend never adding more than two fish at a time and leaving at least two weeks in between. This allows time for the beneficial bacteria to adjust to the increased fish waste.

👀This also allows you time to observe the fish, any potential aggression or illness.

⌚There are no shortcuts or quick fixes in the reef keeping hobby. Nothing good happens quickly in a reef tank.

❤️Aquariums require effort and patience but you will be rewarded with a relaxing, educational, and fun tank.
