And down the peas came!
This year we opted to use the pea debris as mulch in the paths, which limits the amount of hauling we have to do, helps to suppress weeds, and serves as a little composting in place.
Because we hand transplant into these beds, we leave the t-posts in ground year-round.
This year, after the peas @dirtbaguette.0 is planting round two of flowers.

Sometimes farming means installing windows for your new office & bathroom!
This is just a teaser for a big project that’s been in the works at Beaverland all spring. Next up, drywall.
We can’t wait to show it off when it’s done!

Fennel going in with our @paperpotco transplanter!
We’ve been juggling very cold nights with very warm sunny days, a less than ideal combination for tender baby plants. Keeping a small differential from day to night temps is critical to early plantings, but that can be hard when you have a high of 65 by day and an ice storm by night. But with the help of frost blankets, heaters, and a few prayers, we have faith that these little guys will make it through spring.

We’ve kicked off our 2022 season with the first round of transplants, which means that our transplant pre-orders are finally open!
Back by popular demand, we have a tomato pack, a garden veg pack, a medicinal herb pack, and a butterfly-lover pack! Buying now helps us to know how many transplant to grow, and gets you a great early-bird deal on all the plants you need for a beautiful garden this season. All transplants are grown at Beaverland Farms without any chemicals and with lots of TLC.
Visit our farm store to learn more and to see our whole list of available plants. Transplants will also be available in the spring sale on a first-come basis.

Every year we try to identify some of our weaknesses and improve our farm accordingly.
Last year, many of our beds got washed out during heavy rains, meaning the seeds washed away or rain and mud drowned the small plants. Many of our lettuce plants were stunted in the hot summer sun. Bugs love to eat our brassica greens and hot crops. And we always wish that we could have a large offering during our spring CSA and early markets.
Moving into 2022, we are building three new tunnels. These tunnels will extend our growing season by letting us plant earlier in the spring and carrying crops later into the fall. We will add insect netting to protect plants inside, and throw shade cloth over the plastic when it gets too hot. The tunnels will protect small plants from heavy rains. And finally, an added bonus of infrastructure that we can use to more easily tie up our eggplants, peppers, peas and more!
The tunnels are 20’ x 60’ and placed between rows of young peach and pear trees.

Always appreciative of the pollinators. So much beauty in the service of small things to the whole. But also much beauty in the fact of small things' existence.
The flower, like all products of nature, opens itself even to those who do not carry pollen. It doesn't ask them to prove their worth .
Reminder that we will not be at our usual Saturday @f_farmersmarket today!
We’re taking the weekend to dry out. See you next Saturday or see you Tuesday at @easternmarket!

So. Many. Plants. Working on growing that display for our Plant Sale on May 9. We may need to launch an early sale day in April as well since there transplants are growing so nuts. Stay tuned for info on that.
We havent quite mastered spreading the abundance of spring growth evenly across everything. It's tricky to balance the timing of our own production in addition to all the plants we're growing for others. We time out their size and stage and development, but managing those elements predictably in order to deliver a high quality plant for home gardens and fellow farms is a part of our growth and expansion into further dversified and complimentary eterprises here on the farm.
Missed the picture of the truck hidden under a forest of oversized tomato plants and lots of other projects today too. #holidaze

We hand transplanted 10 beds, which was a little more than 1200 plants yesterday. This Kale, Chard, Broccolini and Romaine will carry us through the late spring and summer.
A warm but overcast day, which will hopefully be followed by rain this weekend, makes for a perfect transplanting day!
