I apologize for not having updated for a while. We stay very busy..
First of all we want to thank all of you thoughtful loving people who have been so generous in your thoughts and prayers as well as all the donations. There are no sufficient words to tell you how we feel, We are still receiving donations. If anyone wants to donate, but not online, please, DM me .
Shawn continues to work hard on getting his strength back and regaining his ability to communicate. He has good days and not-so-good days. He definitely has more words than in the beginning. He is still trying to regain more strength in his left side, especially his leg. Some days his leg doesn't want to do what his brain tells it and he falls. Some days he struggles with finding words and talks more slowly than other days. Reading and numbers are coming slowly, but thankfully they are improving.
The cardiologist started him on Amiodarone for the atrial fib. He stays in atrial fib. Next month the plan is to do a cardioversion. Please pray that works permanently. If it doesn't the next thing will be an ablation. He had another MOHS surgery on his left facial cheek. The surgery went well. He has to decide whether he wants to have local chemo or radiation on the other cancers on his head and face.
Shawn found out about a place called TruStem Cell in Illinois. We have talked with them. They do stem cell transplants for stroke patients. The difficulty for us at this point is the cost isn't paid by insurance. It is a total of $13,900, They work a lot the same way CTCA did. That covers having someone to accompany him to the facility and the hotel.
We have had to use almost have of what the donations have already been. If you are able and would like to contribute that would be awesome, Even if you can't, PLEASE KEEP PRAYING FOR US. We are so thankful to have him here and for the improvement he has and for the fact we are able to help him as much as we can.

Shawn is still busy with all of his appointments and "rehabbing". He finally has an appetite, so he has begun to be more careful about his eating. His two labs are a real blessing for many reasons. Sampson and Delilah enjoy their fenced-in yard where they can run and play. They keep Shawn up and moving to feed them and to be outside with them. He is looking healthier.
He spent 4 hours enjoying time with his buddy, Jimmy, and his wife Heather Jeffries. He came home all smiles.
Lamond has him at Duke speech therapy right now. All his rehab providers are so encouraging and helpful. They make the long journey to recovery seem less stressful.
He is believing the Lord will completely heal him as he strives to become stronger.
We got word last week that Bristol Meyers has denied him assistance with Eliquis. The reason, he made over $44000 last year because he was able to work part of the year. We also learned he has been refused long term care insurance beginning next month. I will be calling SSA again today and see if there is in progress on his social security disability. I'm sure he will eventually get it, but during the meantime he has bills to pay. This is the time he will definitely be depending on the thoughtful donations so many of you have provided. Shawn felt a little more encouraged after being tested by a speech pathologist on Thursday. It was an extremely tiring trip to Duke and he needed help getting out of the car when we got home, but the testing showed he doesn't have cognitive impairment, but a language deficit. That was a huge concern for him. I kept telling him that, but I'm just his biased mother :) It will take many trips to speech therapy and hard work on Shawn's part. That is a great encouragement to him. Yesterday was a "good" day. He's feeling frustrated because today is not as good. Shawn said "I think each day should keep better". He is finding more words and can read a little at times. He will rest more today. So he will have good days more frequently until all of his days are good. The left-sided weakness will be helped when he can get physical therapy. The generous donations will help tremendously to get that done. We are waiting to hear from someone to repair the stairlift so when he is too tired to get up the stairs to his room he can use the stairlift. The donations will help with that too, IF we can ever get that done. Please note, when I send individual message showing the GoFundMe post, I'm really not begging for money, but for prayers and for sharing the post to everyone you know. We know not everyone can afford to donate money, everyone who is a believer can pray and everyone can share. WE GREATLY APPRECIATE ALL THE PRAYERS, SHARING, AND DONATIONS. Everyone is so generous in so many ways. Please don't stop with the support. It really helps give Shawn hope to know others care. This is my son. He has had 3 strokes and a heart attack since May 1, 2025. This is about 6 strokes since 2021 and 2 heart attacks since 2021. He was an excellent ICU nurse and teacher for over 30 years. He worked on 6 months last year and 4 months this year. At this point he has to really try hard to find words and not fall when he walks. He was terminated from employment due to his health before it got this bad. He is unemployable right now. We are praying for his healing and longevity. He is a Christ Follower who loves people.
