Meet the Inflation Chicken

People are snapping up chickens that are “heavy layers” in response to egg inflation. The chick situation holds lessons about the broader economy.

Chickens are quite hardy and can tolerate temperature below freezing though they prefer warmer weather. Still some ice patches on the ground after the first snow in decades.

We had a good year. Our chickens produced around 700 eggs this year. Rhode Island Red, Orpington and Barred Rock are super productive in their first year.

In Search of a Match

Oh boy, oh boy! Where do I start?

I was born the day before Easter in the foothills of La Crescenta, California. Today, I am 5 weeks old. Possessed with good look, I'm born healthy and very active. By the size of my build now, you can tell that I’ll be a powerful and breathtaking male. Personality wise, I’m honest, communicative, independent, sharp, determined, sociable, capable and warm-hearted. Not to crow, but these traits do make me very popular with the girls. Inquisitive in nature, I like to forage and get easily distracted by the nearest shiny objects.

You will be delighted to wake up to my musical melody at the break of dawn (and at varied times throughout the day) 4 months from now. I’m considered a timekeeper in many cultures.

I’ll be the guardian of your flock, alerting you to any perceived and actual danger from predators, and providing fertilization services to your hens. I’ll always seek out food for the flock and even help them find good spots to lay.

My favorite foods are whole grains, fruits and greens, except avocados. I’m not a drinker, so no alcohol or caffeine, and you may save the chocolate to yourself.

Not sure yet whether I’m right for you? Let me remind you that I am a sight to behold with my regal good look. I took after my dad, who is a magnificent Easter Egger with brown plumage. My mom could be a Cuckoo Maran, Sapphire Gem or Wyandotte.

I'll always dress up handsomely for you and provide security to your flock. As a mixed breed, I will always be a conversation starter for you and your friends, often times leaving them with an indelible impression. Who doesn’t want a companion like that!

So, how should you qualified yourself for a wonderful creature like me? Ideally, you have multiple hens to keep me busy. If you have non-feathered friends, I can learn to socialize with them. Provide a safe shelter and promise you will never put me in the pot.

Think you found a match? DM me. If there are lots of interest, I will spin the wheel.

P/S: All my brothers are also looking for the perfect match, aka a new home.
