May grew up on a factory farm where she never saw the sky, never felt dirt beneath her feet. All she knew was a wire cage and a dark shed. Now, she gets to spend all her exploring outside in the sunshine ☀️

Wilbur was once being raised for slaughter as part of a youth program called 4-H. Kids in 4-H are taught to raise animals and auction them off at a fair. At the end of the fair, assuming it’s a terminal fair, the animals are loaded onto transport trucks and taken to industrial slaughterhouses where they’re brutally killed. A sunburn saved Wilbur’s life. Literally. The family that raised him neglected to provide him with mud or sunscreen or another way to protect his skin. He got so sunburned that he was disqualified from the auction and we were able to step in and save his life. We secured his release moments before he was going to be shot in the head. He’s now spent the last few years at Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary where he lives a life filled with joy! 🐽

We have finally been able to finish repairs on the sanctuary after the storms this past winter. Thank you so much to everyone who donated to make these repairs possible. We are beginning to return the chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys to the areas they called home before the storm ❤️

Twist was born with a deformed beak. The bottom half of her beak grew at a 90 degree angle, making it impossible for her to eat on her own.

Several years ago, the family that purchased Twist as a baby planned to euthanize her instead of tube feeding her, so we offered to provide her a forever home at Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary. She gets tube fed multiple times a day.

In this photo, she is receiving a health check because she hasn’t been feeling well the past few days. We suspect she may have heart disease and she is being started on medication. Send her well wishes!

Pssst, Rosa wants to remind you that we have a matching donor who is matching up to $17,500 so we can repair storm damages at the sanctuary. We have multiple areas that are largely destroyed and all of are coops on the lower part of the property had to be evacuated. Please donate so we can restore our animals’ homes! Fundraiser in bio.

URGENT HELP NEEDED: We have a donor willing to match up to $17,500 to help with storm repairs so we need our community to come together. Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary sustained tens of thousands of dollars of damage in this winter’s unprecedented rain storms. Most importantly the animals were safely evacuated and no one was harmed. We are grateful to announce that a generous donor has agreed to match donations up to $17,500. If our dedicated supporters come through and donate $17,500, Happy Hen will have the needed $35,000 to repair all of the damage. The animals deserve to have their living areas restored so they can live the best possible lives. Damage sustained includes 2 major landslides which caused the collapse of 2 barns and structural damage to a third barn. 2 trees fell on our duck barn and collapsed fences, netting, and caused minor structural damage. A fallen tree at our turkey barn destroyed the overhead netting which protects them from hawks and other predators. Major road erosion and fallen trees have also made the road to some of our animal areas undrivable. Thank you all for your support during these difficult times!

The poultry housing at the lower part of our property is being EVACUATED in preparation for tomorrow’s storm. The damage to that area is so severe that we are afraid it will become unsafe if the erosion continues tomorrow. We will keep you all posted. Any donations at this time are much appreciated 🙏 There is a fundraiser in our bio.

Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary desperately needs your help. The recent storms have caused severe erosion and we are at risk of losing an entire area of chicken, duck, and turkey housing. Additionally, a tree collapsed during the storm overnight at our turkey barn, destroying our predator protection. Any donations to help with repairs and preventative measures would go a long way. Thank you 🙏

Could you look Trisha in the eyes & tell her that her life is less meaningful than a quick meal?

Trisha was rescued from a slaughterhouse & she was once destined to be a quick meal. Today, she lives at Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary where she is respected as the individuals she is.

Buddha was once a sick, emaciated calf on the brink of death at a factory dairy farm. Like almost all calves in the dairy industry, Buddha was taken away from his mother the moment he was born. He was shoved into a tiny hutch where he could barely turn around. He couldn’t run, he couldn’t play, and he couldn’t be with his family. He developed pneumonia and grew extremely sick. When he was rescued, he was so weak that he had to be rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital. Once he was stable enough, he came to the sanctuary. The first thing he did when he got here was jump and spin in the air. He was still weak and he fell on his face, but he was just so happy to be free that he couldn’t contain himself. Today, he is the largest and strongest resident at Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary. He is a gentle giant and he touches the hearts of all who meet him 💗

It’s hard to imagine that Glenn was ever a little chick on the brink of death at a factory farm. He’s come so far and grown so much and we are grateful everyday that he was rescued ❤️
