We have so much to be grateful for this holiday! We love that we are able to spend our days helping animals and we know it's because of our amazing volunteers, fosters, donors and adopters! Thank you all for always supporting us!

This week, we also have an extra reason to be thankful! You may remember that Charlie had a medical scare back in April. During a routine exam, our vet found a mass in his bladder that everyone believed was cancer. We got him into a specialist where they performed another ultrasound and found the mass had broken up into small particles that were floating around in his urine. A urinalysis came back showing that those particles were crystals! We were elated that he didn't have cancer! However, he was at high risk of those crystals collecting in his urethra and blocking his ability to urinate. He was started on a prescription urinary diet right away and we had to keep an eye on him to make sure the crystals dissolved or passed without issue. It has been 6 mo since his last ultrasound and his bladder is now completely clear! (Photo of his ultrasound in April and the most current one from this week in the comments).

Since Charlie joined our rescue, he has faced several medical obstacles. It took us over a year to find out he had a muscle disorder (which, for those who know his story, he hasn't had an episode in almost 2 years!) and, we felt terrible that he had to struggle with another health issue this year. Charlie never complains though. Through it all, he remains the sweetest, happiest dog we know!

If Charlie had been diagnosed with cancer in April, he likely would not be with us today. While we are grateful for the time we have with all of our animals, we are especially thankful that Charlie is celebrating the holiday with us, playing with his toys, and patiently waiting for a Thanksgiving treat!

Meet our newest rescue!

After spending 6 years with his family, Bear suddenly lost the only home he had known. His dad hadn't been feeling well for awhile and, recently, had to be hospitalized. Bear stayed with relatives while doctors ran tests and waited for him to recover. But, his dad wasn't getting better. When they found out he has stage 4 lung cancer, they realized he wouldn't be coming home.

The relatives weren't in a position to keep Bear long-term, so they reached out to us for help. We picked him up this weekend and he is celebrating Thanksgiving with his new foster family. For many dogs who have only known one home their entire lives, it can be hard to adjust to a new place. However, Bear seems pretty laid back and is just happy to hang out with everyone. He loves meeting other dogs and exploring his new environment!

Unfortunately, Bear's dad was declining long before he was hospitalized so Bear wasn't getting any exercise and was just being fed table scraps. He is now very overweight at 45lbs! He won't be stuffing his belly with us this holiday because he started a diet immediately. Other than his weight, he appears to be pretty healthy. Bear just had a vet exam and is already neutered and vaccinated which means he is available to adopt right away!

If you're interested in Bear, please submit an adoption application on our website at www.dominoeffectanimalrescue.org

Kinsey was our most popular kitten from our last litter! She has the softest, long fur and everyone wanted to snuggle with her!

She moved in with her family a couple of months ago while she waited to get spayed. They had another cat and a Golden Retriever, but the daughter wanted a kitten of her own. When we arrived, she pranced out of the crate and made herself right at home.

One of the family is always home to keep her company but, Kinsey spends most of her time hanging out in the bedroom where she helps her mom work on the computer and then curls up on her neck to sleep each night.

Kinsey has now been spayed and has grown a ton but she is still the smallest in the house. That doesn't stop her from bossing around the dog, though. She also loves running across the house to chase her toys and bravely climbs to the top of her cat tree. She is so spunky, their older cat can't keep up with her, so they are thinking about adopting another kitten for her to play with soon. Either way, Kinsey is having a blast and she is so spoiled with toys, the best food, and endless love.

💕 AVAILABLE TO ADOPT! 💕

Molly is our longest resident and we would love for her to finally find a family of her own.

Molly is a purebred, 11 year old German Shepherd! She loves to play fetch and always carries her ball with her! She is a loyal, well-behaved house guest and will just lay by your feet when it is time to relax. When you need to leave her at home, she will patiently wait by the door until you get back!

Molly is friendly and gets along well with people. She doesn't bark, knows basic commands, does well in a car, and she is crate trained as well as housebroken. Molly gets along with other dogs, but is dominant and a bit pushy so she would do best as the only pet in her next home.

She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped! She has an eye condition called Pannus and takes daily drops to prevent vision loss. She may not have perfect eyesight, but she can still see and has no problems finding anything or getting around.

We truly hope she will find her people soon! She deserves to be spoiled with tons of love and attention in her golden years!

Molly is currently being fostered in Menifee, CA, but transport to surrounding states can be arranged for the right home. If you're interested in meeting her, please visit our website at www.dominoeffectanimalrescue.org to fill out an adoption application!

*Thank you to Kathy Davis Photography (Wandering Woof Photography) for this beautiful photo of her!

It feels like kitten season is never ending this year! We still have three left from our last litter and weren't planning on taking in more until they were all adopted. Then, we received a message about these three in need and had to help.

These fluffies were found in the middle of the street! A Good Samaritan brought them into her garage and their feral mom would come by to feed them. Now that they are weaned and starting to explore, they needed to find a safe place to go. We had a foster offer, so we immediately went to pick them up.

We have already done an intake exam, vaccinated and dewormed them. They are a little nervous in the new environment, but sweet and active. They will be getting tested for FeLV/FIV and will be microchipped and neutered when they are old enough. We also left our trap to catch their mom and get her spayed ASAP.

These babies don't have names yet, but feel free to submit an adoption application early on our website www.dominoeffectanimalrescue.org (just state their color).

Do you remember this big guy? Sal was adopted from us over 6 years ago! Many things have changed in that time, including his family welcoming a new human baby. Sal loves his new little brother, but it quickly became clear that the baby had some severe allergies. They didn't know what was causing their child to feel so miserable. After testing and trials, they worried he was allergic to Sal.

Last month, they reached out to us to see if we could take Sal in for a bit so they could see if their boy's condition improved while he was out of the house. If he got better, they would, unfortunately, have to surrender Sal back over to us. We agreed to help and hoped Sal wasn't losing his home forever.

We boarded Sal for the entire month of October. His family did a deep clean of their home while Sal was on vacation, playing with our dogs. We checked in regularly and prepared to list Sal for adoption again. Then, we got a message that the babies rash had returned and Sal definitely wasn't the cause!

They truly didn't want to lose Sal and were eager to get him back as soon as possible! He is now home, where he belongs, and we are glad we could help eliminate him as a suspect. We hope their baby finds some relief soon, but, until then, he will have his furry big brother right by his side to comfort him.

All of our kittens have had some interest, except Jolene. ☹️ We haven't received a single application for her! This sweet girl is growing up in our rescue and she is so amazing, she deserves a family of her own.

Jolene is friendly and cuddly. She purrs and melts in your arms when you hold her, but she isn't loud or needy. She is very playful and adventurous. She loves toys, tunnels and cat trees to climb!

Jolene is now 4 mo old, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and FeLV/FIV negative. She is litter box trained, and social with all people, other cats and dogs.

If you're interested in meeting this adorable girl, please submit an adoption application on our website at www.dominoeffectanimalrescue.org

We have some exciting news to share! After over a year with us, our senior girl, Missy, has been adopted!

We originally rescued Missy back in 2020. She was adopted but returned to us 4 years later when her mom was diagnosed with cancer. She was always a shy dog and now that she was also an older gal, we didn't have high hopes that she would find another family. She settled in with us and we expected she would live out her days in our rescue.

For months, we didn't receive a single inquiry for her. But, it only takes one! We were so excited to see Missy's name on an application! We chatted about her and set up a meeting with her potential parents. They were a mellow couple that had another old pup and had fostered seniors.

Missy was surprisingly comfortable with them. She rolled around and wiggled as they scratched her back! She found a special spot on the couch and now enjoys daily walks, car rides and trips to the park! She still gets nervous sometimes, but her parents are so patient with her. She follows them around the house and sleeps in bed with them. They told us they are smitten!

Since we didn't think Missy would be leaving us, she become part of our family and it was bittersweet for us to say goodbye. However, we knew she would be happier in a more quiet home without all the other dogs bouncing around. We love her parents and are so glad she was chosen!

Keira likes to believe she is a great hunter. She stalks all the lizards and leaps after birds in the sky. But, a little fly lands on her nose, and she doesn't know what to do!

Keira is a fun, goofy pup looking for her new family! She is a one year old Husky/Lab mix who loves adventure! She is always ready to play and would enjoy a home with another dog to wrestle with! When she isn't romping around with her pals, she enjoys chewing on her bone and collecting toys.

Keira is a good girl on leash and in the car. She is also housebroken and crate trained. She does well with all people and all sizes of dogs, but she cannot go to a home with cats or other small pets

Keira has a beautuful white coat with tan freckles. She is about 45lbs, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

If you're interested in meeting Keira, submit an adoption application on our website at www.dominoeffectanimalrescue.org

Two neuters and 1 spay yesterday! Then, next week, 3 more go in for their surgeries!

Did you know that kittens can get pregnant as early as 4 mo old? They can have up to 3 litters a year with an average of 4 to 6 kittens per litter (our litter was 6!) With 6 kittens in a litter, that would mean that just one unaltered pair of cats could have 306 descendants in just a single year!

There's simply not enough homes for them all.

Many kittens end up as strays where they get hit by cars, eaten by coyotes or starve. Others find themselves in overcrowded shelters where they get euthanized to make space for the constant stream of new arrivals.

If you love animals, don't contribute to the problem. Get your pets spayed or neutered right away.

It didn't take long for Otto to find his new family! We only had him about a week!

He made his debut at one of our fundraising events where a volunteer took his photo to share with her family. Her sister's Dachshund had recently passed away and they weren't sure they were ready to adopt another yet, but seeing Otto made them realize how much they missed having a dog to love. He had a family lined up before we even finished the event!

The following weekend, we drove him out to Orange County to meet them! He made himself at home and it was very clear he was staying there for good. He befriended their cats right away, but there's a dog park down the street if he wants to play with some pups. Otto loves his people most of all though. He is so happy to be able to snuggle up in bed with them at night and they told us he has brought them so much joy.

They needed each other. As hard as it is to lose a dog, it's beautiful to see another bring happiness back into a home. And, as much as he has helped them heal, they have also helped Otto. He had just lost his people and ended up in a shelter, bewildered and afraid. As his new family showers him with affection, Otto is realizing he is loved and safe again.
