All full steam ahead !
The second NT Desert Brumby Relocation is a go !
Borders are open and I am applying for our permits Monday.
Dates to be set at the meeting with Traditional Owners first week of March and it's looking like a May/ June program.
100 Brumbies will be relocated to life sanctuary with the Fanz Webber Foundation. Directly stopping an aerial slaughter and providing the brumbies life long safety in natural wild living herds.
These brumbies will not be domesticated, family units will not be seperated, this is not a rehoming program, it is 100% relocation to a safe area.
If you wish to support this program please consider a donation. These desert brumbies need your help !
Website will be up and live in 2 weeks.

Some changes happening with the page, a new website will be added soon. We are an Incorporated Group and are awaiting approval from the ACNC to be registered as an Australian Charity.

The purpose of the National Brumby Rescue Incorperated is to advocate and work toward humane management and sustainable free roaming herds in all states and territories of Australia for all Australian Brumbies.

To liase and work with State and Territory Governements, Traditional Owners, Advocates and the general public raising awareness of the plight, management, rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of Australian Brumbies.

A primary direction is to see Australian Brumbies remain in their homelands, to stop aerial culling and lethal management, to offer and initiate alternate management strageties within indigenous communities, national parks, state forests and on private land where free roaming wild horses exist.

To enrich the emotional and mental well-being of all Australians and Indigenous Community members and by initiating humane management solutions and provide education and training to communities in regards to wild horses. Empowering the communities to manage the brumbies on their land.

Establishing and maintaining wild horse numbers to maintain genetic diversity for healthy herds.

Supporting Brumbies to remain free roaming and utilizing relocation as a first management tool. Rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming brumbies who are removed from the wild where necessary.

Merlin, the ultimate Horse Hero.

Just after sunrise, advocates on the ground at the Sand Wash Basin wild horse roundup in Colorado in September noticed a tiny newborn foal who was with what was assumed was her mother near a trap that held over 100 recently captured mustangs. A closer look through the lens of their cameras though, showed this small foal was actually with a stallion well-known to locals as Merlin.

The newborn’s mother had been rounded up the day prior, and this youngster had been left on the range alone. She needed milk. The gallant stallion, who should have been miles away from humans, seemed to have brought the baby to the area for help.

When the helicopter spotted the pair, it took to the sky and gave chase. Eventually, both the small foal and the brave stallion were captured. Thankfully, the foal received the care she needed, and Merlin paid the price with his freedom.

But not for long.

The following day, Merlin chose freedom. He took a leap of faith and jumped over the metal panels that surrounded him and took back to the open range. The two most important things to a wild mustang are family and freedom. Merlin chose both.

I have done new updated calculations. Parks always maintained that the Brumby populations increase at between 6-17% per annum. This is absolutely in keeping with wild horse population science. Using the actual figures from the survey done in 2005 on Kosciuszko National Park and an increase of 15.8%, so at the upper end of the science, but accounting for removals annually gives the following numbers. So the SMBSMG head count has proven to be EXTREMELY SCIENTIFICALLY SOUND!!! Maybe SMBSMG should be paid for doing the survey!!!
Oh and remember, they actually counted 1298 horses in the north Kosciuszko region in the 2019 survey! And the 2020 survey they actually counted approx 874! So it would seem they are actually managing to count most of the horses without applying the “Distance Software “!!
The new counts done in 2020 using different methods, they counted approx 439 in the 3 planned areas for removals in the Northern Region.

Congrats to Karen Van Der Veen for her winning bid on this print. And thank you to everyone who bid or shared the post.

There are so many amazing rehomers out there at the moment that it was tough deciding who to donate this to!

We chose Angel as she truly gets involved in all facets of helping the horses, and helping those who help them.

She has helped put in place a management plan to save wild herds of desert brumbies, helped a rehoming group whose principle was injured in a yard accident, is ALWAYS there to lend and hand or help with some training, and recently helped out a friend of mine who was in a tough place with her brumbies through no fault of her own.

Thank you Angel Jade Tanner for all that you do!

This gorgeous print by Emma Llewelyn - Animal Artist is up for auction.

It is an A3 representation of one of our favourites, Paleface - loved by many. Original photograph by Michelle Brown and Ian Brown.

Starting bid is $25. Please place your bid in comments of this post.

Auction finished Sunday 26th September at 4pm.

All funds will be donated to AJs Brumby Run to support the work done by the amazing Angel Jade Tanner.

Hey guys, we have a big horse project coming up in the new financial year and we are in need donations of halters and lead ropes. As many as we possibly can. We can’t disclose any information yet but it obviously involves saving a lot of horses and it’ll be worth the wait. As long as halters and lead ropes are functional we don’t care if they’re old new or in between but we need a lot!!
I’ve set this post to public so please share!!!
Photo for attention ❤️
