'Lifestyle Photography' is somewhere in-between portrait photography and documentary photography. Lifestyle is more about capturing a natural moment. It's about photographing emotions and connection.
During our session I will provide gentile direction and won't leave it up to you entirely to know exactly what to do or how to 'pose'; I just love to leave room for quiet moments like these.

Needing some inspiration to decorate your walls? Often times it's the hardest part of having a photo session! Your photos are taken but...now what?
I'm a bit of a nerd about aesthetics so I've put together a few wall designs to play with. There are no right or wrong choices, use them as a template or a rough guide, but either way you MUST get your photos on your walls! 🖼

It’s almost too hard to think about, but how do you even begin to say goodbye to your beloved pet?

Losing Tilly didn’t feel real when it was happening. I was devastated, grief stricken, and overwhelmed by guilt. Tilly was my first dog of my own and when moving through the process of her passing, I found there were so many elements that I was not prepared for. From what I’ve learned, I want to share a few valuable lessons that may help you and your family.

🐾 Be sure to spoil the heck out of them.
What are your pet’s favourite things to do? Do they love the beach? While you’re there, have they ever tasted ice cream? When at home are they allowed on the couch?...they are now!

🐾 Make decisions ahead of time.
I completely empathise with the desire to put these thoughts off as long as possible. But taking time to face hard choices while you still have the capacity will only aid you and your pet, for the time when you do not. Prepare for grief to swallow you, and leave minimal tough decisions for your future self.

🐾 Consider home euthanasia.
Where is your pet more comfortable? While Tilly loved her vet, there’s no doubt that going into the clinic was a more stressful option for her, when compared to resting on the couch at home. Reducing stress for Tilly was my top priority, and the wonderful Drs of facilitated this with care and dignity. With home euthanasia you are afforded more choices, such as who can be there, and how long you can spend prostrate on the floor.

🐾 Take more pictures.
You will never regret having photos. Even the slightly out of focus, dark and wonky ones. I took so many photos of Tilly when we were together, and it still doesn’t feel like enough. After Tilly’s diagnosis I planned photo sessions for us so that we could have portraits together, and these photos are priceless to me. My most valuable possession.

🐾 Show yourself kindness.
Many of us feel the loss of a pet in a truly profound way - often just as deeply as the loss of a human loved one. Surround yourself with people who understand (and don’t judge) your grief, allow yourself time to heal, and trust that one day, the pain will become easier to carry.

Cuddle your pup and grab your tissues for a very special edition of the Dog Blog. This month we're honouring Cosi the greyhound, who crossed the rainbow bridge in May, a few days after these photos were taken.

End of Life sessions are never easy (and I've certainly been shedding tears while editing Cosi's photos), but I would never turn away from the opportunity to assist a family who are about to face some of the hardest days of their lives.

Pets are family, and personally I feel that it's imperative to capture your family together, to remind us of the incredible love and bond that is shared. Printed photos can last for upwards of 100 years, and are such a personal way to keep your lost ones close for as long as possible. Creating these photos is the very least I can do, until science finds a way to keep our dogs with us forever.

All my love and thanks go out to Stevie and Nick, who got in touch with me when they were told of Cosi's cancer diagnosis. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to have met you, and am thankful for you trusting me to honour your boy.
