We adopt these animals in our hearts and advocate for them as our own. We embrace and promote the personalities of each animal individually. We facilitate the adoption and rescue of these animals, and celebrate with abandon when said occurs

. We foster the spirit of guardianship of all animals. We delight in the joy our animals bring us, and indulge the sentimentality that joy yields. We affirm that even the smallest compassionate act can transform the lives of the most helpless among us.

THIS FELLA IS THE WINDHAM SHELTER'S WILSON. ❤

Wilson was adopted a few years ago, and during that first week home with his new owners, he was sitting on the deck growling at something moving about in the treeline when his new Mom came up behind him and touched his head. Still unused to his new home — and stressed by whatever it was in the woods — he turned quickly and nipped her. Well, they returned him to the Windham Shelter, and that's where he's been ever since. 🙁

Here at Shelter Connecticut, we have a rule: we will not post dogs with a bite history, no matter how justified that bite may have been. And as the shelter noted when I spoke to them, in this case, his bite was due to him not having adjusted yet to his new family or environment. But in the three years since his return to Windham, he has never bitten any one. Moreover, he has shown no aggression at all toward anyone ever. So we're going to post Wilson and give him the chance he has waited for all this time. And to be sure he gets the right match, he should be adopted by a dog savvy person — not someone bringing home their first dog, so he can get used to his new people and surroundings properly. 😉

So what's Wilson like? Well, he's an active eight-year-old Shepherd mix who would love to live with someone who could give him a job or something to do where he could use his brains — and he has a high drive that could be channeled into a fun activities. He loves people and is pretty good on a leash. He REALLY loves water and adores swimming. And he's totally into tennis balls!

And Wilson is already neutered and microchipped so he's ready to ride! 😃

WALLINGFORD'S VIOLET BEAUREGARD NEEDS A WONDERFUL HOME. ❤

She's a Pittie puppy, and such an amazing little gal! 😊

🎨 If she were a color, she’d be hot neon pink — bright and dynamic
🦛 If she were another animal, she’d be a hippopotamus — making short work of a whole watermelon (chomp, chomp!) and not really the most gentle or graceful at playing with others!
🎶 If she were a song, she’d be Real Wild Child — but probably the Joan Jett version. Pretty self explanatory!
🌶️ If she were a food, she’d be the spiciest little meatball. Buon appetito!
🏍️ If she were a vehicle, she’d be a dirt bike; compact, zippy, great on rugged terrain, and very likely to end up covered in mud!
🤪 And If she were a yearbook superlative, she’d be a class clown; always playing, always goofing off, never takes herself too seriously.

In all seriousness, 5-6 month old Vi B. is a super smart and very energetic little bean who will be happiest with an active, engaging lifestyle. Granted she is tennis ball obsessed, a few rounds of fetch or a romp in a fenced yard won’t be near enough for this pup! However, if you’re looking for companion to regularly explore, run, hike, or bike with, that’s way more her speed! She’s a total sponge when it comes to learning commands and tricks and games, and she does so with ease. Get this gal into a puppy class and she’ll be the top student, guaranteed! 😉

And after spending time in a mixed species foster home, we very strongly feel that Violet should probably be an only pet. While she may do well having play dates with similar sized or larger, tolerant dog friends who can match her energy level and play style, it’s likely best for her to live as the only dog in the home. We do not recommend she live with cats or small animals. 😉

MEET CHINO — A LOVELY BOY AT THE WALLINGFORD SHELTER! HE'D LIKE A LOVING HOME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! ❤

Chino is friendly, playful, independent, smart, loyal, athletic, and gentle! He also has a lot of energy and loves to run and play ball. He would well with a fenced in yard, but absolutely loves to go on walks with his best volunteer pals at the shelter and will enjoy taking them with his new family! 😊

Chino knows his basic commands and is sometimes independent. We have never seen him say no treats treats. 😉

All dogs adopted are up to date on vaccines and tested for heart worm prior to leaving the shelter. And animals adopted from the Wallingford Animal Shelter are microchipped, courtesy of the Friends of the Wallingford Animal Shelter. 😊

GO MEET BUTTER PECAN! 😊 SHE'S A LOVELY LADY! 😊

SHE IS A 4-YEAR OLD LAB/PODENGO MIX WHO TRAVELED ALL THE WAY FROM PUERTO RICO TO THE ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY IN MILFORD TO FIND HER FUR-EVER FAMILY! AND SHE LOVES OTHER DOGS! ❤

Sweet, but very shy, Butter Pecan is a 45 lb four-year-old spayed lab mix who was flown up from Puerto Rico around two years ago. Building trust with Butters is a slow, but rewarding process. During her time at the shelter, she's grown more and more comfortable with our volunteers and staff to the point where she's begun to accept affection and gets excited when she notices us arrive, so we're confident that while it will be a long process of working with her, she has the capacity to be a very loving dog. 😊

She thrives with canine company! When she's out in the yard with her best buddies Mike and Micheal, she'll join right in when the two of them are getting pet and acts far more comfortable with their more confident personalities to bounce off of. She's a lady with simple tastes who enjoys her milk bones and a good walk with a person she trusts. Butter Pecan is up to date on her vaccines and will require a fenced in yard to adopt. 😃

VALLEY SHORE ANIMAL WELFARE LEAGUE HAS A REAL SWEETHEART WAITING FOR AN AWESOME NEW HOME AND FAMILY! 😊

Alice (formerly AC) is a 2 year old Terrier mix, she weighs about 50lbs and has obviously had a bunch of puppies in her short 2 years. She's spayed now, so those days are over and now she gets to live like the short queen she is.

Alice is a girl‘s girl and is not a fan of men.

Alice was living with another doggie in foster and gets along with him well! She is very gentle and would be great with kids, but has not met any kitties. Her foster mom says that Alice is quiet, house and crate trained, and walks well on a leash. She also loves car rides! Alice likes to play with toys but she is also quite happy to be a couch potato or lay in bed with a snuggly human. Alice is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccines, as well as flea/tick/heart worm meds.

STAMFORD ANIMAL SHELTER HAS THREE YOUNG DOGS WAITING FOR A FAMILY TO LOVE THEM 💕🐾

GEO - Geo is an American Staffordshire Terrier and approximately 5 months old. He is super friendly and has done well with dogs he met so far. As a puppy, Geo will need obedience training, plenty of play time, and lots of patience 🤪

ZARA - Zara was a stray found roaming here in Stamford. Zara is a sweet girl and is in need of basic obedience training but takes corrections well. She is dog selective and would rather spend time with people; being the only dog in the home is ideal. Zara will need an owner that has experience with the breed (Dutch Shepherd) and will be consistent with training. With the right owner, patience and consistent training Zara will be the perfect addition to a family 🐶

RYLO - Rylo was a stray found here in Stamford, CT. He is a 3 year old male that is friendly and gets along with people. Rylo is in need of basic obedience training and is eager to learn. He has not been dog tested but walks pass the other dogs at our shelter without any issues. With patience and consistent training Rylo will be a great addition to any family that adopts him.

Meet Bjorn, a 3-year-old male American Staffordshire mix. Bjorn gets excited and is a jumper, so he will need some training with that. But he is a very playful boy and loves to chase tennis balls. He seems to be unfazed by other dogs and cats here at the shelter. He would do best in a home with older children due to his jumping. (Please note that Bjorn is bunking in at the NECCOG SHELTER"S Norwich facility.) ❤

Bronco is a Lab mix and a big fella! And yes, he is as goofy as he is handsome — not to mention energetic, so Bronco's been getting some obedience training! **Leroy is now with Brass City Rescue Alliance in Middlebury but is still waiting for his forever home. Any applications received to Naugatuck will be forwarded to them!**

Say hello to handsome Leroy! Leroy came to us as a stray who sadly was never claimed. We estimate him to be young, about 1-3 years old. He is the sweetest boy, eager to please and be with people. He is a typical cattle dog mix with lots of energy, so an active family would be best. He has tested great with other dogs - meet and greets would be required. 😊

🐾 Curious, loves kisses
🐾 Ready to play, but also content to snuggle on the couch and snooze 💤

Onyx was a stray found roaming in Stamford, CT. He is approximately 4 months old and is such a friendly boy. Onyx is in need of basic obedience training and is so eager to learn. Onyx is a real charmer and loves everyone he meets. He will be a great addition to a loving family!

Mya is a sweet girl but is very shy when she first meets new people. After a little reassurance she quickly warms up and is a friendly girl. She would do best in an adult only home as well as the only pet. Mya is ready for her forever home, will you give this sweet girl a chance? ❤

Nova was a stray that was found roaming here in Stamford. Shortly after arriving at our shelter Nova gave birth to beautiful puppies. She has been a great mama nursing her puppies but it is almost time for mama to find a forever home. In 2 weeks Nova will be available for adoption, she is a sweet 1.5 year old girl looking for a loving home. Will you open your heart and home to this sweet girl? ❤

GREENWICH'S STELLA IS SUCH A CUTIE! ❤

Meet Stella, a sweet girl who is a Bedlington Terrier mix of about 3-4yrs old. She is playful and energetic — and can be a little bit rambunctious! She likes other dogs but has not been exposed to cats as yet. Stella would do well in a home with children over 12 years old.

Blueberry is a 5 year old American Staffordshire Terrier that was found roaming in October. He is a super friendly boy who loves the attention, he knows how to sit pretty and loves butt scratches.
