HART Cincinnati HART (Homeless Animal Rescue Team) is unique in that we do NOT have a building and are 100% volunteer We are a 100% volunteer, non profit, animal rescue team.

Hello and thank you for your interest in volunteering with H.A.R.T. We accept animals from puppy mills, stray cats and dogs, animal abuse victims, and overflow from shelters, etc. There is never a lack of work, only a lack of volunteers. We are glad you would like to help us save the animals. We ask for no specific time commitment, only that you love our animals. There are many volunteer opportuni

ties available at H.A.R.T., a few are listed below. You may sign up for as many teams as you would like. If you do not see a job that you want – don’t be shy, just tell us what you would like to do – we are always open to suggestions. Foster Coordinator: HART is unique in that we do not have a building. All of our animals are fostered in the homes of volunteers until they are adopted. Foster Coordinators interview foster applicants and conducts reference checks and home visits before a foster applicant is approved. Foster Parent: Living with a foster family enables the animals to become socially adjusted to home life while experiencing lots of love, often for the first time in their lives. While fostering, HART pays all medical bills and provides supplies. The more fosters we have the more animals we can bring home. Animal Transport: There are times when our Foster Parents are unable to pick up or deliver an animal to/from the vets, an-adopt-a-thon, or between fosters. Transport volunteers act as chauffeurs. Rescue: When we get a call about an animal in need, we have to act fast. Rescue Volunteers are the first on sight. We never know where the call will come from only that an animals needs help ASAP. This team will determine if we can accept the animal into our program and make arrangements for getting the animal into a veterinarian for HART protocol and the work closely with the Foster Coordinator to place in a home. Lost Animal Search – All too often we get a call from someone whose pet has been lost. We try to help everyone. It can be time consuming but very rewarding to bring a lost pet home. Adoption Follow Up: This team calls the new family and visits the animals in their new home to make sure the animal is happy and adjusting well to the new environment. Special Events – Throughout the H.A.R.T plans and schedules adopt-a-thons and a variety of fundraising events such as a golf tournament, puppy baby shower, dog walk, silent auction to name a few. Volunteers are needed to plan and run these events. Communications: H.A.R.T. relies heavily on email and phone trees to reach our volunteers. Communications volunteers would assist with this critical function. Marketing: It is important that the public knows what HART does and when we are doing it. Press releases, free advertising opportunities, media coverage, etc. would all help our cause.

Meet Chloe, a 10 year old female Turkish Angora beauty!

She originally came to HART as her owner had passed away with no relatives to take her. She was adopted in 2022 for a companion to the son of the family, but the mother started having allergic symptoms. As he is now going away to college they asked HART to take her back.

Chloe is a beauty and she is not only a Princess, she is the Queen!! The comments from the first HART foster and the adopter was that she loves being pet on her head and neck (but not anywhere else). She also loves being a lap cat while you are relaxing. Will follow you around to be with you. She does NOT shed! She is a little chunky and is highly food motivated - SO food needs to be moderated! She does not like being picked up - as she's the Queen, she will come to you!

In a new home, she will likely take more time to get adjusted to the new environment, human schedule and voices. She can be a little hissy. You will be rewarded when she comes to trust you!

All HART kittens and cats are vet checked, combo tested, spayed or neutered, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and on flea and tick preventative.

If you are interested in any of our kitties, you must complete an online cat adoption application available at www.rescueahart.org/adopt/cat-application. The application will put you in touch with a HART volunteer.

Say hello to Freddie!

Freddie had been living outside and not doing very well on his own. He found some kind strangers and ran up to them, meowing for help. He was very skinny and was craving attention and food. Once he came to HART he gained over a pound in three weeks of foster care!

He is very snuggly and loves to be held! He truly likes belly rubs and could be pet all day long. He is playful, but not overly rambunctious or mischievous. He's actually a very well behaved kitten. He carries himself like a little gentleman, so he sometimes his foster family like to call him Sir Fredrick :)

Freddie is cool with the large resident dog and the resident teenagers, even the vacuum doesn't seem to bother him! He was however, very hesitant of the resident cats at first, but he is coming around to them. He will need a slow introduction to any new animals (especially cats), but I think he would eventually be fine with them if they are friendly.

Freddie was born around May 2024 and has been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He is all ready to go to his forever family, are you ready for Freddie!

Meet Daylin!

Dear Potential Adopter,

I am hoping to find a loving forever home for Daylin. She has been my foster for some time now. When she came to foster with me she had two brothers who were very friendly and got adopted right away. Daylin is very shy and timid but more trusting eveyday.

She is 3 1/2 years old. She hasn't made incredible progress will in foster care on not being as shy but still needs some more socialization. She is good with other cats. She runs and chases with her foster siblings plays with her toys . Not fond of small children.

Daylin has a very sweet and gentle personality, her meow is soft and gentle she calls out to the other cats when she can't find her siblings. She is now ready to find a patient and understanding adopter who will give her the time and space she needs to fully blossom. It's hard when they're in foster care for them to really show their true personalities.

I know there is that special person out there who is willing to give her that time she needs to really come out of her shell. If you are interested in giving Daylin a chance on an awesome forever home please reach out. Thank you for your consideration.

All HART kittens and cats are vet checked, combo tested, spayed or neutered, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and on flea and tick preventative.

Meet Lennox, a 65 lb. German Shepard Rhodesian Ridgeback mix born Oct 2022, who is looking for his forever people. In one word Lennox is Love. This boy will give you his whole heart and love with all the openness and giving dogs are known for.

What is Lennox looking for in his forever family? One that will love him back with the same intensity he has to give. He would really enjoy having a human best bud to play games with and run around in the yard.

Lennox is very active and will do well with clear instructions and consistency. He understands the words “no, stay, sit, back off, leave it, drop it, house, and done”. He loves a good tennis ball and can play fetch for hours. He has been with his current foster family for four months and provides them with daily love and entertainment.
In his current foster home, he has a fenced in yard, and can let himself in and out of the house back door.

Apartment living is not recommended for Lennox. He is very alert and guards the house well. He currently lives with a 14 yr old dog sibling and gets along with him. Introduction to other companion dogs should be slow and in a calm environment. He will thrive with constant training and reminders to walk without pulling and he wears a pinch collar for training purposes when walking on a leash.

He gets excited when he sees dogs his own size which seems to be increased when he is on the leash. Also he will chase cats and it is recommended not to have cats in his new home. He has been attending dog camp once a week to help him socialize with other dogs and is doing really well.

He prefers not to be crated, and so far, he does fine if left out of the crate during the workday and at night. He would really love to share your bed but could be easily trained to sleep in his own dog bed. If he can see you and be with you, he is happy. He does not chew on furniture or destroy things but has a cute habit of taking one shoe of a pair into the living room with him while his people are gone.

He would thrive in an active family who could take him out for several walks or play fetch. He is a loving boy, has the biggest heart, loves to cuddle on the couch, and can play fetch for hours. It is never a dull moment with Lennox around.

If interested in meeting Lennox please fill out an application at www.rescueahart.org.

Meet Love Bug!

Love Bug was found as a stray, crossing a busy street and nearly getting run over. Fortunately he made it and was rescued by a HART foster. He lives up to his name, a super sweet, affectionate kitty that loves being pet and belly rubs. He has a very laid back personality. He gets along well with his foster mom’s kitties.

Meet Clementine!

Do you want a small dog companion but NOT a lap dog?
Do you want a dog who will run from you rather than towards you?
Do you want a dog who prefers the company of other dogs over you?
Well then I have got the perfect dog for you!!

Please give a warm welcome to Clementine! In all seriousness, she is an adorable little girl. Clementine came to Hart in June 2021 and has been in the same foster home ever since.

She with so many others was rescued from a hoarding situation in Tennessee. To this day, she still exhibits nervousness around people. For this reason, she is looking for a very special adopter. The adopter will need to be very patient with her and give her ample time to show her brand of affection.

While she still runs from me if I try to approach her to pet her, she does make her way over to me at bedtime for lovings. She will even sleep in bed with me and give me some sweet kisses. But when it’s time to get up, she darts away again. I truly can’t explain it but I have learned to accept it.

Clementine does great with her doggy friends. She is most comfortable with other dogs. The ideal adopter will have another dog in the home that will groom and “mother” her. She loves having a dog around that she can curl up with!! Also, since she is hard to catch, a fenced in yard is needed for her.

Due to the fact that Clementine can be a challenge to catch and she does not come when called, any meet/greets will have to be done at the adopter’s home and only within 25 miles of the Northern Kentucky area.
PS Guard your socks. She loves socks (haha)

All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks! www.rescueAhart.org

Meet Stitch
This is a heart wrenching story.

LILO and Stitch were discovered after being left in a box behind the shed at a vets office. Being out of sight, they had been there in the baking heat without food or water for over two days before they were rescued.

They were in dire straits. The vet, who has decades of experience in animal rescue, said that he had never ever seen so many fleas on a cat! The result of that flea infestation is that both cats have dermatitis, now being treated, and their fur is thin and brittle. They are thin. Good food and TLC will soon take care of that too.

Both cats are gentle and totally non-aggressive. Lilo is recovering well from her ordeal- she is responding positively to being picked up and petted, and has begun to initiate contact with people.

Stitch is still suffering. While he does not fight being picked up, he is clearly still traumatized and his emotional recovery will take more time and patience. He is beginning to enjoy pets and love.

YOU could be part of that recovery. While we would like both cats to be adopted together, Stitch needs a little more reassurance that he will be provided a safe and happy home.

He will need a quiet home with an adopter who is willing to exercise both patience and kindness as he learns that he is finally safe and loved.

Lilo has found her happy ever after. Let's find Stitch his!

All HART kittens and cats are vet checked, combo tested, spayed or neutered, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and on flea and tick preventative.

Meet Gizmo!

Gizmo is a striking black pup with white markings on her face and chest with vivid white stockings. She was born July 18, 2024. Gizmo and her 8 siblings were removed from a home due to neglect, came to HART from a shelter in Kentucky to help them find their forever homes.

The father was a pure Australian Shepard Blue Heeler that weighs 45 lbs. The mother is said to be a Lab mix that weighs 50 Lbs. Gizmo weighed 18 pounds at16 weeks old. She is in excellent health.

Gizmo is a very confident, fun loving pup. She likes children, adults, and other dogs. She enjoys playing tug of war and keep away as well as wrestling with her siblings and other dogs.

She has been around to 5 adult larger dogs during play dates. She has been around 5 younger children (4-11 years old) and takes harsh holding well. She warms up to other dogs fast and likes to play with them.

Gizmo likes to have her belly rubbed and ears messaged. She also loves to lay on you lap while you watch TV, and she does give kisses. She is an affectionate pup and rides well in the car. Has started walking on a lead, but needs additional training.

Gizmo is crate trained, and is house trained. The cool weather didn’t deter her from going outside. Gizmo is a pretty laid back pup, her activity level is about average, plays for an hour or 2 and then rest/sleeps and hour or so as most puppies. She sleeps through the night in his crate (9:30 to 6:30) without protest, if she hears stirring near 6 he’ll start making noise to go out. She enjoys chew toys, tug-of-war, chewing on sticks, and playing with other dogs.

She is highly food motivated, so training should be easy. Gizmo would do best with a fenced yard, as she loves to wonder around stiffing and playing in the flower beds or anything she can find.

If you think Gizmo could be a good fit, submit an application and the foster will bring her to your house for a visit.

All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. Meet Juliet!

Juliet is a sweet 4 year old girl looking for her new home!

Juliet was adopted in 2022 and was recently found outside in need of a new home. Juliet has been a mom to 8 babies through her life. This super loving girl had five babies of her own, and adopted three orphaned kittens. Juliet did an amazing job nursing, loving, cleaning and take care of all eight babies.

Juliet loves being with people and getting as many cuddles and pets as she can. She is playful and curious and loves to nap in a sunny window or lay in her cat tree.

Juliet will be fine with another NICE furry friend, as long as they have a good introduction. This girl is sweet, beautiful and so loving the whole package!

All HART kittens and cats are vet checked, combo tested, spayed or neutered, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and on flea and tick preventative.

Meet Ozzie
Dear Potential Adopter,

I am writing to you today in hopes of finding a loving forever home for Ozzy, a cat I have been fostering since December 2023.

When Ozzy and his sister first arrived, they were both timid and fearful. My primary goal was to socialize them, and I'm pleased to report that Ozzy has made incredible progress. Over the past year, he has learned to trust me, interact with other cats and dogs, and be comfortable around people. Witnessing his transformation has been truly remarkable.

Ozzy has a gentle and endearing personality. He has a soft meow and loves to cuddle and receive affection when he's ready. He is a year and a half old and has spent a considerable amount of time in foster care. He is now ready to find a patient and understanding adopter who will give him the time and space he needs to fully blossom.

I believe there are special people out there who are willing to give cats like Ozzy a chance. If you are interested in providing Ozzy with his forever home, please reach out.

Thank you for your consideration.

Let me introduce to you The Beautiful Opal

Opal approximate D.O.B is 09/15/23, she is a DSH Black kitten with a lot of love to give.

Opal came into foster with me when she and her brother needed more socialization. She has been working with me for over 5 months now and even though she still needs time to warm up she is getting there and just needs a forever home to continue showing her trust and love.

Opal is very food motivated and you will quickly find your way to her HART with a good lickable treat.

Opal will need to go to a home that has time to continue her socialization, a home with NO SMALL CHILDREN would be best because that would be scary for her, to many moving parts.

Opal WOULD NOT DO WELL WITH DOGS!

Opal really needs a person with a special HART! She has so much love to give and needs a home that will be patient with her and give her time to flourish in her new home.

If you think you can be her special person, than show her some love by filling out an application.

All HART kittens and cats are vet checked, combo tested, spayed or neutered, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and on flea and tick preventative.

Meet Oliver!

Oliver was found on the side of the road and a good Samaritan stopped to help him and called HART. When he came into the foster home he was pretty scared and hungry. He needed a safe quiet space to decompress and adjust to regular food and water. After a few weeks, he started to play with his foster family! Oliver was still very scared and would run if you moved too quickly but he was making progress and feeling more comfortable. We found out the quickest way to his heart is through treats! He loves them and will come running to you to get more! He knows the nightly treat routine well and will be waiting patiently for his turn.

Oliver takes a little bit to warm up but will come out of his shell fairly quickly to get treats and to play! He loves wand toys and shoe strings best. He doesn't mind being brushed but generally takes good care of his grooming needs. He will butt his head into your hand and enjoys full back scratches all the way to the tip of his amazing tail. Oliver is curious and likes to explore and see what's going on.

Oliver tends to follow the lead of other cats, so a home with a confident, friendly cat will be a great fit for him! He is always rubbing his head against the resident cats and playing with the other foster kittens! He gets along with the resident dog too! He will do best in a home where he is given time to adjust and learn the routine.

Oliver's date of birth is approximately February, 2023.

Meet Callie!

I am a loveable Jack Russell Terrier mix and my birthday is June 10th making me around five months old now. I weigh about 17 pounds and that is mostly muscle from running around and playing with my sister. I absolutely love to play, eat and nap…sometimes I forget that I am still playing and fall asleep with my toy in my mouth.

Over the past month my foster mom and pop have been taking me out to meet new people. My favorite place to visit is Lowes because I get treats, I mean get to show off how good I can be and get told I am a good girl. I am learning all about sit, place and stay. I love sit the most and if you stop, I will most likely sit next to you while looking at you lovingly, so you want to give me a treat.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to go out and do good so I get treats. I really like to meet new people but forget my manners and try to jump on them sometimes. I also don’t understand why everyone wouldn’t want to meet me since I want to meet everyone.

MY LIKES

Toys: small plush squeaky toys, Treats: bully sticks are great to chew on for long lasting fun and little treats keep me happy learning new things, Place to sleep: bed on the floor or couch, Person: Currently foster mom but I hope it will be you!

MY DISLIKES

Car rides aren’t very fun but I don’t get sick in the car anymore, but big or loud trucks on the road are scary. I don’t love baths but I will listen and be good and am very glad when they are done! Super rainy days are not something I like. I don’t wanna leave the porch on the really rainy days.

I really hope to find a furever home to spend the holidays with. If it might be you please fill out an application at www.rescueahart.org so we can meet! I will show you how cuddly I can be.

All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks.
