The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is in full swing and I loved seeing some horses and ponies who came through our doors as youngsters perform in the big ring. I'm excited to cheer on the Beau Balou babies in the Cup classes next Saturday and I can't wait to see them too in the main ring in a few years 🔥🐴🏆🐎🚀!

So... let's make more Beau Balou (Charlie) youngsters! For anyone who has ever had a horse (or pony) in the Royal - any breed, any division, girl, boy, etc, I am offering a spectacular RAWF special, if you are thinking of breeding to him next year. His regular stud fee is cdn $1,900. Until November 10, his fee for fresh chilled will be $1,250. AND first collection (normally $375) is included. This is a regular contract with a 2 year live foal guarantee. Simply message me with the name of your horse/pony who competed, what division they were in, the year, and your email address and I will send you a contract 🔥🐴🏆🐎!

PS if you've never had a horse or pony in the Royal, but are dreaming of that day when you can bring one, PM me and we'll work with you to make that happen!

Wishing the Canadian-owned stallions Otamendi and Central Time success at the North American Sport Stallion Test, which starts today in Maryland! I'm so pleased they are undertaking this huge effort as the Test truly legitimizes stallions and opens all the registries to their foals. It is no longer sufficient today to have a nice looking Stallion stand at stud without ever getting tested or seriously competing and proving themselves through performance. Having the eyes of multiple registries on them provides feedback and a track to run on for future success.

At this time, on the first day, Alisha McLean and I were scared, excited, hopeful, and suffering a serious case of imposter syndrome, as we worked in a row of 18 other stallions. There was a lot of nervous energy and testosterone happening in that aisle. Beau Balou was looking out his window at the gorgeous Hilltop Farm (it was cold that year), wondering what all the cafuffle was about. Siri Ingebrigtsen , who brought us there and back, ended up becoming a tight member of our team as none of us really knew how the next 3 days would unfold.

In the end, we were very successful (2nd out of 19 stallions), met a lot of new people, networked, made great contacts and above all, we forged friendships that will last a lifetime. That is what I treasure most. That, and seeing these stallions "behind the scenes". I am humbled and that many of the alumni of Charlie's class became successful dressage horses, jumpers, eventers and hunters. Many (like Charlie) are on the cusp of Grand Prix and are competing nationally and some are starting their FEI careers. I love to watch and follow their development.

I wish Darlene Tierney and her Ashland team, as well as Sandra Laprise and her team all the success we had. It is an amazing experience! Enjoy every minute of it (even the hair-pulling moments 😉).

For anyone who is still trying to breed this year, we have an extra dose of Beau Balou available. It is extended with Beyond and I will stand behind it until August 14.
Available to ship or be picked up on very short notice.
Very high pregnancy rates. Foals inherit his great movement, athletic ability, and temperament.

Can any of my dressage friends (or jumpers with good flatwork) help Piny Club out by lending a horse ? Year ago I loaned Valentino K for National Jumper Championships and I would do it again in a heartbeat, if I could. Mine are all long retired now. Horses are beautifully looked after (probably better than at their homes lol) and it means the world to those who have traveled far and worked so hard for this.
Pic is of Valentino and the winning riders. He was Champion Jumper that year ❤️. Terrific memories.

From Suzanna O'Connor :

National Dressage is coming up fast beginning next Monday August 12th hosted by the Western Ontario Region.
The venues have been paid for, Ancaster Fairgrounds for the competition and Redeemer University for the participants to stay at.
Many WOR members have signed up to be grooms. Many other have volunteered as chaperones and general volunteers. Ribbons, tshirts, prizes etc have all been purchased or donated. A lot has gone into planning this event, one of the last National Events.
BUT the organizers are still short confirmed horses for the competition. There will be 14 competitors from across Canada coming to WOR to compete and they would like to have at least 16 horses available. Training or first level quality. They will be very well looked after at the Fairgrounds indoor stabling. There are grooms for each competitor and horse.
This is the last National Dressage Competition for the foreseeable future so please help us make it the best one we can! We would hate to have to cancel at this point!
If you could help us with this, please contact [email protected]

Did you know Canada has connections to all 3 medalist horses?
1. Checker was ridden by Chris Pratt in the early 1.3m (I think) days
2. Dynamix de Belheme had Hyde Moffatt up at 1.6m
3. Beauville Z is sired by CSHA approved stallion Bustique - who, incidentally, is a full brother to Yann Candele 's spectacular mare Bustique.

Too bad these didn't stay in Canada 😒

I won't ruin it for those who haven't watched the Olympic Individual show jumping final. Suffice to say it was, as expected, a tough (borderline trappy imo) track, with many related distances set on 1/2 strides. If you miss, even a bit, going into the line, it has a domino effect. Chances of survival (so to speak) were slim.

Again, students of this sport, study this course on paper, then look at it with the added difficulty of the actual jumps! Just one example: look at the distance to the triple bar...which is set in a combination, at the end of that line.

This course reminded me of the tumbling line in floor ex of Gymnastics...

Another great course in Paris today foe the Team Finals.
After 2 riders who have gone from each team, the standings are 1. GB 2. FR 3. US. Things can still change when the 3rd rider goes as IRE is in 4th and looking strong.
I am sorry our Canadian riders and horses don't get to see these new jumps, which are more interesting than yesterday - 2 bridges over the Seine (liverpools), Notre Dâme wall, lavender fields planks, cinema triple, Chateaux de la Loire triple bar (huge), perfume, wine, epic Eiffel tower vertical, etc.
Great, technical course again, demanding huge adjustability, constantly lengthening and shortening the horse's stride.

01/08/2024

Any show jumping fans, students, equitation riders, etc I hope you woke up early and are watching and studying Paris!

I find the course to be brilliant. Asks a lot of technical questions, with the added pressure of speed and some spooky jumps (wall, French pastry, etc) going into related distances or combinations. It's imposing but not trappy. A good indication of what is to come later in the week! From a Breeders perspective, it's clear what we need to be breeding! Careful, brave, nimble and speedy horses...but we also need the riders with the skill to ride these types.
