Holiday hazards specific to cats:
"When choosing holiday decorations, be cautious with plants.
Mistletoe, amaryllis lilies, and paperwhites are toxic to cats, and poinsettias can upset their stomachs.
Keep any of these plants out of your cat’s reach. Learn more about holiday safety at https://bit.ly/2A8kwHA."

FLETCHER, NC - URGENT NEED!!!
These beautiful kitties need a loving adopter or foster home by tomorrow (Tuesday) through no fault of their own as their elderly owner is not able to care for them and will not be returning home.

Please help if you can and PLEASE SHARE to keep them out of the shelter.

UPDATE: FOSTER FOUND THANKS TO JACOB DIAMOND 🙏🏻😻🙏🏻

🆘 3 CATS IN NEED OF FOSTER BY TUESDAY, 12/10 🆘

These beautiful seniors are estimated to be 10-years-old. Their owner has dementia and doesn't remember names or genders but the neighbor caring for them believes the white one is female and calls her "Princess". She believes the tabbies are males and calls them "Prince" and "Duke". The kind neighbor leaves after tomorrow, 12/10, and out-of-state family will have animal control pick them up if a home isn't found. The owner is in the hospital and won't ever be coming home. They are located in Fletcher, NC.

DO YOU HAVE A BEDROOM YOU CAN SPARE?

Nashville, TN - Meet QUILL
This beauty was rescued by a dog rescue after being dumped at their kennel. These are good people who run this rescue and they have gotten her all vetted and ready to go to her forever home. As you can imagine, she is not very jazzed about hanging with the big dogs, so PLEASE SHARE to help her find her happily ever after for the holidays

OK cat people of the BFDR world, this is Quill, a 12 week old Siamese mix kitten. Some jerk abandoned her at our kennel and we had to trap her to get her. She walked into our trap and she then found herself at a vet's office getting all the things which she did not love (0 out of 10 stars, does not recommend).

Quill is now looking for a home. She is utterly bewildered which is kind of unsurprising seeing as we are a dog rescue and there are lots of dogs around. She is shy and sweet, and she is friendly and will be very social once she is not freaked out by life in a dog kennel.

Quill is spayed, feline leukemia and FIV negative, she is chipped, vaccinated and so ready to go home. She is in Nashville and if you are interested in adopting or even fostering her, email [email protected]. Spread the word for her please.

PS people of the cat world. We are a dog rescue. What we know about cat breeds can be written on a cocktail napkin in crayon. Siamese mix is a solid guess. Prove me wrong, LOL.

PPS RIP to poor Mari's email. Never in a zillion years did I think poor Quill would go viral.

Good tips if you are caring for outdoor cats in this cold weather.

Be sure to feed them extra and make sure their water has not frozen. Also bang on the hood of your car or blow the horn before starting your engine.

The temperatures are dropping in our area. Here's a post from Stray Cat Project with tips to encourage your community cats to use outdoor cat shelters.
-------------------
📢 How to encourage an outdoor cat to use a shelter...

In most cases, cats will figure out how to use shelters on their own. Here are a few things you can do to attract them if it doesn't seem like your community cats are using the shelter:

▪️ BE PATIENT. Some cats need a lot of time to get comfortable with a new shelter.
▪️ Loosely fill the shelter ½ to ¾ full of straw, NOT HAY. Replace the straw at least every year (or when dirty).
▪️ Remove any door flaps on the shelter. While doorway flaps help keep cold air out and warm air in, they should not be added until after your cats are used to going in and out of the shelter.
▪️ Do not place food in or near the shelter. Cats instinctively avoid sleeping near food as it attracts other cats and wildlife (predators).
▪️ Location is important. Place the shelter where your cats are already hanging out. More feral/less social cats typically want to shelter farther away from humans. The more secluded the shelter, the more likely cats are to use it.
▪️ Place the shelter near natural cover, as opposed to out in the open where your cats may not feel safe. Cats prefer to move along walls, hedges, or other natural barriers and boundaries. Place the shelter under or up against a building, fence, tree, porch, bush, or some type of overhang.
▪️ Place the shelter with the entrance facing away from the wind, rain, and snow.
▪️ Make sure the shelter is on a flat surface. A wobbly shelter could discourage cats from entering.
▪️ It’s possible that your cats have another shelter where they feel safe. They may already have a shed, crawlspace, or some other shelter they prefer.
▪️ When all else fails, try a new location, but only after giving your cats plenty of time to explore and get used to the current location.

(We thank FeralVilla.com for this great advice!)

💛 THANK YOU to the caregivers who have taken the time to build a feral cat shelter. Protection from the elements is critical, especially during the cold months, and your thoughtfulness will no doubt save many lives this winter. 🐾❄️

Sterling is easy-going, estimated to be 9-years-old, and likes to be near his person😻. History with dogs, cats, and children is unknown 🤷🏼‍♂️. He would like a quiet home with a person who is home much of the time😺.

Our Story

Forever Feline Friends is a registered, 501c3 non-profit, feline rescue and adoption organization in Charlotte, NC. In addition we have a feral building/enclosed yard area at the rescue where we bring old or sick community cats to live out their days in safety and with the ability to get vet care as needed. Several cats are now hospice cases, but will live out their lives with love and dignity in our care.

We focus on adult/senior cats and educate the public that an older, less than perfect cat who may have kidney issues or be FIV+ is just as deserving of a loving home and has so much love to give. The beauty of adopting an adult cat is that they are full size and their personality has developed. We can typically give adopters an idea of their feline finickiness level too!

As a small, volunteer based organization we do not have a shelter. All our rescues are housed in foster homes - most with other cats and sometimes dogs, so they are used to the activities of a regular household.

We welcome questions on any of our residents and are happy to have interested parties come meet the cats in person - they love visitors - and you get a much better feel for how that cat would fit into your household. We look forward to hearing from you!
