Well how did I fall in love with Rottweilers? The spring of 2008 we had a boxer (OH how I love boxers) named Reggie, he was sweet, cute and destructive when left inside the house alone LOL. Well one day I was out with family while Sean (my husband) was working. Sean received a call from our alarm system ADT that we were being broken into, they alerted the police and we drove home. It took me about 30 minutes to get home and Sean about 2 hours and still there weren't any police officers. Finally they showed up and our home was cleared out of all our electronics, the kicker was there were used syringes on the hallway floor. We were in shock that we got broken into with an alarm blaring and not only had time to clear us out but use drugs. I was freaked out, I stayed home with our 3 year old daughter and suffer from PTSD. I remember feeling like I wasn't going to ever be safe again. So we decided to put Reggie to the test. We left him inside to protect the house and we had a neighbor that Reggie did not know come over and try to break in to see what he would do. Well......... what did Reggie do you wonder? He licked the window the entire time the guy “tried” to break in! We loved our Reggie but that wasn't going to cut it for our safety.
I studied the Rottweiler breed and Sean had one as well in the past. I had been around several but I really didn't understand what kind of dog they are. I wanted to find a loyal protective dog that was great with children. After doing a ton of research I felt that a Rottweiler was the perfect choice. So we found a breeder and got Archie. He was the most amazing dog I have ever had, he was loyal, kind, gentle with the kids but he did not take s**t from anyone and he was going to protect his house and his people no matter what. We traveled and moved to Mexico and he came with us, everywhere we went. I couldn't imagine life without him, no more alarm system and never felt safer. November 2015 he was diagnosed with cancer, I was devastated. I knew with my PTSD I was going to need another dog right away but I couldn't imagine getting another Rottweiler because it would remind me of him, I started looking up other breeds and found a few but I wasn't sure. Archie passed away January 11, 2016, that day my vet told me of a local Rottweiler breeder in town that just had a litter. As soon as she said that I knew I wouldn't be happy with any other breed.
I still have my sweet girl and we adopted another male couple of years ago. Our male Briggs was older and he developed cancer as well and passed away November 2018. We contemplated another dog, but I really wanted to give fostering a shot. I have had several successful fosters, and I love it but it is HARD! Durning the time of going to shelters I started seeing more Rottweilers and it broke my heart to see them rejected (well all the animals rejected in the shelter) and knowing it would be a struggle for them to find homes because of the fear many people have and their bad reputation.
My hope in creating this page to help educate people about the breed as well as share any Rottweilers and Rottweiler crosses that are in shelters or if there are people looking to re-home theirs. I will be going to the few shelters to meet and spend time with them to help find their perfect home. The gift that my Rottweilers have given me is priceless and I feel that if I can do the same for the breed it is a good trade.
