🙋🏾‍♀️For me and anyone else who needs it…
🗣November 2015 I started my public speaking career, sharing my family's experiences as a veteran managing my mental health challenges while also raising the children on the autism spectrum and parents figuring it out as we go along.
😵‍💫The plan was to stay in California but then everything just fell apart with our children's education. In January of 2016, our son's arm was broken at school while he was unsupervised during his paraeducators lunch. We were threatened with truancy charges for challenging the school's ability to safely educate our children. It was the final straw in a long list of problems that we had with our children's education, mental and physical and safety.

❤️‍🩹By May 2016 we moved to Colorado and I love the life we have here. But… initially my heart was broken and I didn't understand that success and happiness don't have to be measured against old/obsolete life goals. I could still be happy even if things didn't turn out as I imagined.

⭐️This last year has reinforced the realization that expectations are my downfall. Had we stayed in California like I wanted I would have missed out on the life I am loving right now! Thank you to all our Colorado communities who have been the vessel for healing for our entire family.

❓Thanks for playing... What's eating me?

🏆 If you said Japanese Beetles...you are correct.

🔄 They have a 35-45 day life cycle, so they should be gone soon.

🥰The book I am LOVING right now is… Feeding The Soul (because it’s my business)
By Tabitha Brown

🫶🏾 Her voice and vibe are a feast/meal for my whole soul. I adore her, we are friends…that haven't met yet.

🪫In addition to a standing appointment with my therapist I love books that help me align to the best version of myself. After several years in therapy and various wellness and healing practices I realize that when I am depressed, anxious and navigating suicidal thoughts…something or things are very off in a my life and I am ignoring the signs. It’s my phone's battery at 20%. It's me still downloading apps and scrolling through social media even though my phone is clearly begging to be left alone and recharged.

🤩 I knew I was going to be an entrepreneur in the 2nd grade thanks to Black Enterprise magazine. What I didn't know is it would take several breakdowns, lessons, attempts and pivots to get here. I would be in my forties, farming, creating content, homeschooling, healing myself and family.

😵‍💫 My soul was dehydrated, malnourished and tired, when I started listening to Feeding the Soul.

🥰 Thank you Tab for inspiring us all to allow our way to joy, love and freedom.

🧘🏾‍♀️ Take three deep breaths

💦 Stay hydrated and nourished

🫶🏾 Be well Dear Hearts

Gardens are often the most accessible places for children to learn about nature’s beauty, interconnections, power, fragility, and solace. 💚

We give gratitude to our unspoken bond with the soil, Mother Earth and our partners for making this loving program accessible for our community. 💫

Shout out to Sarah Hamid and her team for making us a lovely vegetarian meal. ❤️

💎I'm a dirt person. I trust the dirt. I don't trust diamonds and gold.
Eartha Kitt

🥴My schedule has been very dynamic for ALL the right reasons. Instead of diamonds and gold -my spouse and children prepared our backyard farm project, without my micromanagement. It turns out my children don't mind working…. it was all my commentary.

🥰I appreciate that my family prepped the beds for me. I had no expectations of how they would do things. This morning I meditated and walked barefooted in my backyard, soaking up every bit of the good feelings. The images do not do this morning's magic justice yet I tried.

I’m it is just a bruise and not a break. She fell off the last rung of her bunk bed ladder onto her bedroom floor covered in built and unbuilt legos. The impact of the fall sounded terrifying and understandably she was upset and in pain. I didn’t think it was broken...but because of her pain tolerance we had to be sure with an x-ray.
🚑
Annoyed by life, life-ing (when I have plans🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️)I started to “chain” all the intense feelings of special needs parenting, getting ready for the holidays, end of year business responsibility and ALL the things.
🧐🤔😌
But the truth is I am thankful that our pediatrician and their autism specialist are great and are attentive to the diverse needs of our family. I am thankful that I have a support system of family and friends who hold space helping me manage my mental health. Her dad took her to the doc, her siblings managed themselves and Aunt Melissa (my Air Force sister of over 20 years) and I texted back and forth until we received the break free x-ray result.
🙏🏾😌✨
Be well and thankful dear hearts

Self-care, Wellness and Suburban Agriculture

Hampden Farms is an Suburban Farm located in Southeast Denver, owned and operated by self-care enthusiast Zephrine Hanson. Out of passion and necessity, Zephrine makes handmade, non-toxic, and safe when accidentally ingested (kid tested) products for her children’s severe eczema. After completing the Veterans to Farmers program, Zephrine combined her new love of farming with handmade bath and body products and Hampden Farms was formed. Hampden Farms is currently staffed by volunteers: Zephrine’s husband, son, and twin daughters. Hampden Farm’s 2019 goal is to build passive solar greenhouse that is 100% sustainable, allowing us to grow our own herbal products and market greens year round.
