We've been doing some upgrades to our Guinea pigs' home. They have a brand new enclosure that is more fit for purpose, our girls were not having fun on the ramp in the other hutch. I'm going to get them some new toys and hopefully a castle or some sort of higher level area 🥰

It's with very heavy hearts and a lot of tears we had to say goodbye to our gorgeous baby Robbie this week. Unfortunately he went into cardiac arrest while under sedation. It's extremely common for bunnies to not do well under anesthetic but it's still heartbreaking. We've brought all the babies up from the moment they were born with their mum Rosie. They are and always have a piece of our hearts.

The past week has thrown us all of the emotions. Buddys had his snip and thankfully it's gone smoothly and he's happy and healthy but one of our guinea pigs, Rebel has had some big issues we've had to try and sort.

She's had a visit to the vets where they weren't really sure what was happening. Her back legs stopped working and she had this balloon-like bulge on her side. We weren't convinced she was going to make it through the night.

But! After a week of pain killers, extra vitamin C and some gastrointestinal medicine she seems to be in much higher spirits. She's walking on four paws! She's making happy noises, she's eating food. So the future is looking a lot brighter!

It's bath time again. She's so much more energetic now than the last few times. She's moving, spinning and ducking her head under the water.

Next time I think we can try the pool and see if she wants a swim 🥰

Buddy had a big day today. He went to have the snip.

Anesthetic for bunnies can be quite dangerous and as Buddy is 5 he is at a bit more risk than others but he's come through and is a happy boy eating and drinking well 🥰

Baby boys are next and there may be a bit of a surprise in store for us!

Well that was eventful. My life flashed before my eyes, my heart was racing! I'm alive and so is Smaug and that's all that matters...

Okay let me explain, I thought I was being an amazing Dragon mum and bought Smaug some new insects to try, Crickets being the scariest of the new insects. I was feeding her, minding my own business when a cricket decided to escape and jump on me. I bravely tried to catch it with my hands but it was too quick. A panic attack later and me having to come to the realisation that we are now going to have to share the house with a cricket and that obviously the other sofa was now going to be my new home, it appeared! I caught it and the only rational thing to do was feed it to Smaug! 😂🙈

We promised you more details and there's more still to come over the next few weeks but we're delighted to officially share that on Friday, August 2nd between 10am and 2pm, we will be hosting our summer fun day! 🎉

Here's what's happening:

☀️ Crazy Maisie's will be open for children 9 and under - with tea & coffee available for their grownups!
☀️ In the main hall we'll be hosting fun activities for children including bracelet making, pebble painting, clay modelling & face painting - plus a number of helpful organisations will be joining us for the day to offer free community support & advice.
☀️ Cook24 will be hosting cookery demos. (If you've been wondering what's happened since the blood clinic moved to Dafen, this is your chance to come and see for yourself - plus take home some yummy food!)
☀️ Tea, coffee & homemade cakes in the cafe.

How much? Free! (Although if you have an amazing time and decide you'd like to make a donation to help towards the costs & to fund future fun community events, we have on-line and in person options. Just ask us for more details.)

When? Friday, August 2nd between 10am and 2pm.

Where? Antioch Centre, Copperworks Road, Llanelli, SA15 2NE.

Lots been happening today. The chicken and Duck house is finally livable!

They seem to love it 🥰 the chickens are still bullying the ducks so they ducks have the place to themselves tonight and the chickens are back in their own coop and run. But it won't be long until their new outdoor space is complete and they will have plenty of room to run around together.

Here's a behind the scenes at what a morning in the life of Kate looks like.

We are really lucky that we get given a lot of vegetables and salads from the lovely people we know 🥰 I prep salads for the animals so I have a few bowls ready for the week.

All our animals get fresh food everyday. This is normally a mixture of different leaves, vegetables and herbs. On this week's menu is carrots, broccoli, mixed greens, coriander and parsley. These bowls then go to the rabbits and guinea pigs.

I add some different foods like pepper, cucumber, sweet potato for Smaug, the bearded dragon as well as her calcium powder and live insects twice a week.

The chickens then get a whole lettuce that they love to play and peck at and access to grass. From all the eggs we get from the chickens we grind the shells up and feed them back to them as a source of calcium and grit helps chickens to grind up their food.

All the animals that need dry food as well get a bowl full a day/ or all day grazing access on top of the fresh food.

We are slowly trying to introduce the other bunnies to Thunder. We have put thunders indoors cage next to the outdoor run so they can start to smell each other. We will do this for a few days so that they can get used to each other, before we then put Rosie and thunder in runs next to each other outside of their own spaces.

The whole process will take some time but if the girls bond we will have a lovely little family 🥰

Please don't try to mix rabbits straight away, rabbits can get quite aggressive when they are uncomfortable and this can lead to life-threatening injuries. It takes time, but it will definitely be worth it.
