Do you like your Labradors: lightly toasted (yellow), toasted (chocolate) or Crispy (Black)?
We will now be referring to our PSSDiT Sully, Shadow and Rip as Crispy Labrador Retrievers!
Our youngest PSSDiT Sully and Shadow had a nice bath today, getting them used to being handled, washed and nails trimmed on a regular basis! Needless to say they did fantastic! More fantastic news! These two cuties are now officially fully vaccinated and will be ready for more training and some daycare days as well!
The Keller Crew of Jenny and Delilah also got involved in the baths today although maybe less enthusiastic about it!
I can’t get over Mr. Sully’s head tilt!

A very big happy belated birthday 1st birthday to our original Psych Support Service Dog in Training, Rip!!
Rip, is big and strong and also smart and kind, just what we want in a Service Dog! His handler is over the moon for him and he for her!
We are so excited to see him grow!
Happy Birthday big guy! Thank you for making everyone’s lives better with you in it!

We had our first Service Dog class last night and these two did fantastic! Little update on Sully and Shadow:
Sully has been growing quickly, his basic commands and bathroom etiquette has been quick and easy for him! He’s sassy and lovey and loves nothing more than love, treats and playing (in that order)
Shadow is also going quickly, she is smart, sassy and confident and knows how to charm her way to get what she wants! She is food driven and always down for playtime!
Both pups are 14 weeks old and will be receiving their final round of vaccines on a few weeks, then the exploring can begin!

All our Psych Support Service Dogs in Training had a fantastic long weekend!
Rip spent the weekend out at the lake with his handler and Sully had his sister and fellow PSSDiT Shadow come stay with him for the weekend! Needless to say, everyone is pooped! We hope everyone had a great long weekend!

A few people have asked me, “why Psych Support Service Dogs?”
The easy answer is, I have seen it first hand the power a dog can do for a persons mental health, whether with task based help or simply a “helping paw” to cheer you up. I service dog can help you through an emotional episode and can also make you laugh at their goofy antics when they are off duty.
The bond and love a dog can give you is something special and that special bond can be a healing one, and you just can’t find that anywhere else. I do this because I love dogs and want to support my community in anyway I can!

Well, Sully is officially to his puppy raisers house!! Miss Shadow and Mr Sully have been introduced to their new handlers and needless to say, they have won the jackpot! All the love and support they will receive with their humans is just amazing to see! It’s been a BIG day for these two and it’s time for a nap!

2 of our 3 puppies are “hard at work” this week! Shadow is settling in nicely with her puppy raiser and is very confident and active.
Rip has been staying with me while his handler is away and he’s made sure that his days at daycare spent to it fullest and his evening with Delilah and Jenny are, well very restful!
Sully will be going to his puppy raisers home tomorrow so stay tuned for some more puppy photos!

We have two new Psych Support Service Dogs in Training in our care!

Shadow (Second Picture)- This little one is smart, confident and sassy and she is going to make an incredible Service Dog for her wonderful new handler!
Sully (Third Picture)- This big fella loves his people and is very gentle! He will fit his new handlers needs and be the best little partner!

Puppy Spam!!!!
We did some Service Dog assessments with Labradors of Dunrovin today and needless to say, it was the best morning ever!!
This is a fantastic opportunity to find the very best puppies for their persons needs, assess the puppies drives, dispositions and training needs. It’s also a great opportunity to snuggle some puppies!!
We have chosen 2 puppies from these 4 puppies for Psych Support Service Dog work. Can you guess which ones are coming home with us? Stay tuned for more photos and some fun stuff ahead!

Puppy Raisers Wanted:
That’s right, we are looking for volunteers to help raise our new puppies coming soon, here what Puppy Raising looks like:
You would be responsible for the puppy in your home from the age of 8 weeks to 1 year old, full time and then from 1 year old to 2 years old, part time and shared custody with their new person. Once the puppy has passed its Public Access Test (around 2 years of age) the new handler will take 100% possession of the new Psych Support Service Dog!
You would be responsible for all the care involved in Puppy Raising with help from us and our Puppy Raiser Manual, this includes bathroom training, socializing, leash walking, all the fun things involved in everyday puppy life!
Everything involved with the puppy will be covered by us, food, toys, vet checks, crates, everything, we just ask you are able to transport the puppy to vet visits and daycare (when they are of age).
This is a big ask to bring in a puppy into your lives so I am requiring everyone whom applies to have discussed this will all your humans you live with, live in or around the Saskatoon area, experience with raising puppies is a must and most importantly, enjoys working with dogs.
You will have 100% support at anytime from us and when your away, puppies will be required to be looked after by us.
Interviews of the Puppy Raiser position will begin immediately, so shoot us a message on social media or email us at [email protected].
If you can’t be a Puppy Raiser, totally ok, we love ya always, but please share, share, share!

“Whats the hardest part about what you do?”
I could say finding donations or working on tasking, preparing for the Public Access Test. But, the honest answer is, letting them go.
2 years is a long time to spend with a creature, through up’s and down’s, the hundreds of hours of training and you expect me to just let them go?!? And the answer is always yes, because, watching them and their new handler thrive in ways not possible without there new best friend is 100% worth it.

We place our Service Dog puppies very early, want to know why? Because it allows our puppies and their new handler ample time to bond and train together in order to better their relationship and their skill set. The downside is there is a possibility of our service dog in training to be washed from the program, whether for health or behaviour issues which can be hard emotionally for everyone involved, but, bonded and skilled dogs and handlers is the upside!
How to set any dog up for success? Train their people to train their dog!
We are still needing more donations to support our current and new Psych Support Service Dogs in Training so if you can donate, thank you! And if not, please share, share, share!

Wanna see the most adorable thing is the world?
Just have a look at this puppy puddle of cuteness right here!!!
Our newest additions were born just recently by Labradors of Dunrovin only a few weeks ago and we are so excited to see their little personalities come out!
Kim and Bryce at Labradors of Dunrovin have been simply amazing picking the right puppy for Psych Support Service Work and offering TONS on support to us with donations and her wealth of knowledge!
When you know the puppies you are/will be working with are happy, healthy and picked by a professional, you know the work and the final product (so to speak) will be amazing and beyond expectations.
So thank you for everything, we are lucky to be working with such an amazing breeder!

With permission with Rips new handler, we are able to share what Rip will be trained to do. Rip will be helping his new handler with PTSD and so far, the boy is a natural!

Because mental health is important to everyone and Service Dogs have shown to be potentially life saving in the world of mental health, we can’t let financial barriers get in the way. This is why we raise, train, place Psych Support Service dogs with help from donations to cover our costs!
